My self dimming POS has started making a buzzing sound. When I reach up and squeeze the mirror it stops. Sooo... I removed the mirror in the hopes that they can be opened up and maybe a little silicone or (?) would stop the problem. My problem is that the unit seems to snap or glue together. Has anybody opened one of these things up? I really don't want the "dealer" to touch it.

I'll bet it's a "non serviceable item", they will replace the whole thing and charge you $150. Is it buzzing electrically or from vibration? I'm sure it's just snapped together, the problem is how, there is probably a little known trick to it. Many times I end up breaking things like that trying to take them apart, but can usually super-glue back together. Good luck

I saw a guy "open" one while I was on a plant tour at GM Janesville (WI) a few years ago. #ad

Everybody in the group gasped as the assembler picked it up and casually tossed it in the trash can.

They don't survive floor drops too well.

If it is under warantee (HINT: Signature with year and miles), let DC buy you a new one. It's the least they can do!

Sorry... The buzzing is definitely vibration induced. Non-servicable huh... Figures... #ad
BTW yes, it is under warranty. However, knowing the dealer, I would much rather solve any problems myself.

Did you try tightning up the screw that holds the mirror to the mount on the glass? I have found that mine tends to loosen up, esp. if the mirror gets adjusted frequently.

Used to work on boats. One trick we used to silence rattles and squeaks was to drill small hole 3/16"- 1/4" and pump the offending item full of silicone rubber. The problem is you can burst the housing or sometimes "kill" the part.

I just bought a self dimming mirror at the slavage yard for $5. You might try there.

BTW it helps if you can search for and remove the part yourself. That way when you go to pay the guy behind the counter thinks its "just a mirror".

I tried the torx that holds it to the windshield already, the problem is inside the part. I was trying to do Great White's idea but without drilling the hole. In other words that way I could see where the silicone was going. Before i go to the scrap yard, I will try to get the dealer to give me the part as an exchage. Thanks for all of your help.
