Tune In Tonight!!

We stopped at Walmart the other day to buy it and they were already sold out. Said they got 30 in and they went as fast as they put them out. Went to another place to rent it and they were out. Had 50 that they rent and they were all out so the wife just bought it. Have not got to watch it yet. I would bring it here to work if we had a DVD player.

Good movie but.....

I liked it. Good movie but the best western ever? Nope pardner, that honor goes to "Shane. " Then there's "The Searchers", "The Man Who Shot Liberty Valence," "Winchester '73," "High Noon"

and "How The West Was Won. "

JMHO,

Open range is a darn fine movie. I would say it's on par with the unforgiven with Clint Eastwood.
Is that supposed to be a compliment? Personnally(sp) I did not care for Unforgiven. Dk

You forgot Red River! Other than that, a good list I can agree with. Probably more we are forgetting. DK.

Nobody likes westerns more than me -

But youngsters growing up today, don't have that tradition. This movie can help start a new one for my grandkids etc. The list that was mentioned is a great list - but I think that list forgot one of my all time favorite's John Wayne's (and William Holden as the Dr) 1959 The Horse Soldiers. That was great and I still love it... .

By no means is my list complete. Those are just films that came to mind immediately.

Still, I offer "Shane" as the greatest western of all time.

Open Range!!!

This has my vote for the best western movie made in the last twenty years. It is tough to compete with the old classics but this was a great movie. I took my dad to see it, he hadn't been in a theater in twenty-five plus years(he just turned 86 years old) He absolutely loved it! Robert Duval is brilliant with his performance!

How about another great western classic, Blazing Saddles!:-laf:-laf

"How The West Was Won" Saw that when it played the big screen (showing my age) and still have that haunting melody in my head.

True Grit is another favorite of mine.

Picked up Open Range at Best Buy, haven't watched it yet. I don't remember much fanfare when it was running in the theatres.

Some of my favorites in no particular order:

The MaCahans (TV mini-series)

Centennial (another TV min-series)

Dances with Wolves

Outlaw Josey Wales

Pale Rider

The Alamo

C'era una volta il west (How the West was Won)

Tombstone

Little Big Man

Jeremiah Johnson

The Last of the Mohicans (1992)

Come on guys, all the movies listed are great, but you left out the best one of all... ... .

Lonesome Dove.

It just doesn't get any better.

An excellent flick!

True Grit is at or near the top of my list though, not sure if I have one favorite. :D

I bought the DVD Saturday night. It's a great movie. Costner is becoming a heck of a director and puts some reality into his movies. We buy all of the new westerns to add to our old collection. He mentions that he is wanting do another western on disc 2 of the set. While not one of the greatest westerns out there I like the action scenes in American Outlaw. It lacks in the reality department though.

Rented it last night, but havn't gotten to watch it yet. I think it will be good, but the best IMHO has got to be "A Few Dollars More".

We also liked Lonesome Dove. My Geldings name is Gus. Fits him pretty good to. He's a 16HH hat thieving onery outfit always looking for a way to aggravate someone if their in his pasture.
