Hey guys, still learning here. I have the factory fuel/water seperater on my sig truck.

I'm about to buy a used fass 150 from a friend and have to get the harness for my truck. The big question. I have before I commit is???? Does this system replace the factory seperater or does it work in line? My current seperater sits on the frame under the driver side just before the driver rear door hinge. I see trucks where the fass goes farther back near the tank.

Anyone have experience with this and can help me out?

It can be installed either way. It sounds like you have a second fuel filter already. normally there is only one on the engine. Main reason to keep stock filters is the heaters. FASS doesn't have fuel heaters unless you add separately. Bypassing the stock filters will give a bit more flow.

If I add the Fass system I'll be at 4 filters which really doesn't bother me my concern is flow? Will it gender the flow with that many filters?

Best flexy is straight to CP3 as FASS in includes larger lines. At relatively stock power levels (<500hp) it can keep up with 4 filters. I would loose the one on the frame and keep one on the engine for the heater and water separation.

The FASS 150 is over kill for a stock fuel system anyway, should have no issues with 4 filters. The WS on the FASS is pre-pump then thru the other filter to the output. Leave the existing filters inline, can never have to much WS with ULSD. You want to keep you stock filter bases and such in place for fuel heaters and filtration. Add the fuel heater option to the FASS while you are at it.

My mechanic told me that a fass 150 would be good to have to help injectors and let me build a foundation for bigger fuel in the future. I don't plan on going too big cause let's face it. I'm not loaded like most. Gotta get what I can when I can.

Finally at a real computer rather than my mobile.

From your description you already have the mopar sever duty filtration system (http://ww2.justanswer.com/uploads/ndarimont/2012-05-07_225433_fuel_filter.pdf).

So to explain my earlier post about removing the cab filter. You should be able to sell the severe duty filter as long as you reverse the install procedure and include every thing. There are a lot of people that prefer to add additional filters rather than put on a less reliable fuel system even if it does flow more. Also the Severduty filter's filtering is not really specified, I have heard that it is only a 10um (or may be 25um as that is what they had on the 5.9 version) filter so unless you put junk filters in the FASS it will not catch anything.

The maximum flow would come from bypassing all the stock filters. Depending on how big of power you go that may be the best option. There is a lot to be said for keeping the stock engine mounted filter inline as it is a good water separator and is monitored by the electronics for Water. If you use a <5um filter in the FASS, the stock filter will never need changing as everything it can stop has already been stopped. If you use a 5um filter in the FASS, the stock filter will pick up the <1% that get bypassed by the FASS filter since any filter is only around 99% effective for single pass filtration.

This has been covered for years 10+ and still the Owners don't get it Fass/Airdog have myths that never die, The Ram CP3 is equip with a GP (Gear Pump) it is capable of 250GPH at 25HG it will easily over come most FASS/AIRDOG pumps. unless your goal is 600HP+ your intank is fine

Now if you want more filtration add it as Auxiliary NO need what-so-ever to add inlne or direction filtration, Unless you are looking for big HP NEVER and I MEAN NEVER remove filtration always add. (Race or Competition systems need to be discuss with the HP builder)

Spin -on filters are obsolete (Its about time) the cartridge or canister style is the ticket, Spin-ons labels have been misleading in many cases and still widely practices, Those spin on water separating filters don't work and in some cases add to contaminates by rusty internal filters form poor internal properties. ( they do have some value on certain setups spin-ons, IMO Water separating Spin-ons filters I avoid ) I do support Aqua-zorbs or encapsulating spin-on (Illegal for direct injection filtering) can be used in Auxiliary systems. another discussion.

OP Add the system auxiliary, Auxiliary systems can be operated during fill times, when you can get contaminates before the OE / Inline / or direct combustion systems, The More times you filter fuel the cleaner its gets , but when fuel is filtered 2-3 time before it is use for combustion should suffice and the OE system will be the continuous filtering. Intank pumps are far more reliable then most add-on electronic pumps

Auxiliary systems can be plumb into so that its your back up combustion fuel also, All Of My Rams have the intank and 2 Auxiliary filtration pumps for filtering and backup, The best their is simple reliable and cost effective.

Its your truck Your money and Your choices.

TCDIESEL,

How would you suggest I add the Fass 150 inline as an Aux system? I am getting a system from a guy that lives near me and he only had it installed for about 2 weeks on his 98-04. I have spoken with Fass and they informed me that I would need the harness for the 2012 model and a different draw straw for in tank. I am also reading or being told that the Fass have a 1/4 tank issue and that I should look into the sump kit.

Based on your experience and that I want to build this truck to be strong and powerful yet reliable what kits do you recommend? I have attached pictures of the factory mopar water seperator system that I have. Dodge cant even get the filters for this anymore and every time i need a new filter i go to ebay and buy THE ENTIRE SYSTEM for 66$ so now i have about 5 systems laying around my garage all brand new with no filters because its the cheapest way to get them. on eBay this cost $66.50Part# 68083826AA
