Anybody running a Scangauge

Has anyone come up with a good way to remove (unscrew) the filters from a Fass 150 setup. I have a lot of difficulty getting the filters to release without crushing them. . Last time I tried this I had to take the whole assembly off the truck to get a good purchase on it. I am hoping someone has been able to figure out a way to get more torque on the entire filter body. Thanks for any suggestions. Dave Pratt

You might be putting them on too tight? A rule of thumb I go by is once the seal touches I go one more full turn around.

As HDR said, I just get it snug. To remove I use a rubber strap wrench. I've also put a little oil on the seal like you would an oil filter. I no longer have issues like you're describing.

Thanks for the replies. When I replace these filters I put a thin coating of oil on the o-rings, then tighten 3/4 turn past contact when re-installing them. So, I don't think they are being re-tightened. A trip to my local auto parts store today resulted in my buying a special heavy-duty filter wrench that has seat belt webbing material to wrap around the filter, then a stem into which you can put a 1/2 inch drive ratchet or extension. Haven't tried it yet, but it looks like it will do the job. I'll post again after I have tried it out.

Trust me, I've shredded a couple with channel locks, I honestly don't know what the secret is. However I have found that some oil on the seal and getting them "snug", I haven't had a problem yet. I used to wrench them on there as I was paranoid about air getting in, bad news. I know use a rubber strap wrench and so far so good. Your new wrench should do fine.

I've had the same problem with mine. Usually stab the filter with a long screwdriver and turn them off. The spot that I put the pump is tucked up high so it's hard to get my filter wrench in there.

I can now report "Problem Solved". The answer was a Pennzoil Oil Filter Wrench Strap Style. It is very strong and took the filters off with ease using a 1/2" drive ratchet.
