where is the cheapest place to get the fass system for my 99 cummins. Also how do they compare to the other systems that are on the market.

Will someone explain the difference between the 95 gph system and the 150 gph system to me because i am a little confused because most places have them as the same price so what is the difference between them. also do you get to pick what micron you want your filter to be because i see some with 3 micron and others with up to 10. what do i want. how often do you have to change your filters. How hard is it to install this system. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

You will need basic hand tools and basic mechanical skills to install the unit, I started mine one evening and finished the next morning. I think I had 4 hours in it if I remeber right. Could probley do it faster now that I have been through it once. It comes as a kit with everything you will need, I mean everything. From what I understand, the 95gph kit is for stock to mild upgrades. I chose the 150gph, eventually I will run larger injectors, but for now I have stock injectors and only a Cather ECM for upgrades. I have no problems what so ever running the larger pump. It starts as easy as it did with the stock lift pump. I would highly recommend the FASS to anyone. Holds 15psi at WOT pulling my boat. Anyway, I am sure someone else can answer about the filter micron sizes.

I believe the VP44 isn't as susceptable to dirt as the newer CP3, so the 3 microns are not as crutial. I didn't make that statement saying don't run a finer micron filter, just that it isn't as critical. I started a very big thread in the products and accessories forum.

There are several choices that will keep you under 6 micron... I personally run the Fleetguard HF6604 (3 micron filters), the HF6607 (6 micron filters), and the Baldwin (equivalent to the HF6607) BT8509-mpg.

I have the Vulcan relocate kit with a stock pump and will be puchasing a FASS. Did you guys leave the existing filter online in addition to the FASS system?

As long as you plan on getting the FASS with filters, I ditched the OEM stuff.

Some will say leave it if you want to retain the WIF light and fuel heater... I have not seen any reason to leave it...

I did leave all the OEM stuff hanging as a back up system...

I did the RASP because it is a mechanical pump (read that is my opinion of the longest MTBF of all the options).

I also do a RACOR 690T fuel filter right at the tank and a second fuel filter (8um) just before the VP44.

I have done a lot of testing on fuel temp and took my OEM ff out because of its location and the heat it picks up that decreases the VP44 cooling ability.

(My test since 04/2006 is no VP44 body temps above 105* which equates to OAT + 5*. I think that cool fuel lubricates better than hot fuel. I also think that a cooler VP44 mechanism will have less functioning mechanical stress than a hot one. The last rebuilder we visited mentioned that the stability of the VP44 operating temperature seems to be a player in its longevity)

Our SETDR has gone to several VP44 rebuilders as a meeting and ALL of them stress, and stress, and stress CLEAN CLEAN CLEAN fuel (NO particulates, NO free water) HOWEVER you do that.

I think the OEM is marginal and certainly NOT over engineered for filtering.

Since filtering is one of the absolutely critical components, I decided to over engineer mine with what I have done.

However you do it, CLEAN CLEAN CLEAN, volume, psi, cool fuel is the key to keep the VP44 running well.

City Muffler is no longer a dealer with us, and i know they will not offer any service if you try to call them about a FASS/HPFP Issue.

Dan:

Sorry did not know that, must have just happen in the last few days i just got mine off the UPS truck Tuesday.

I do have a question for you though.

Can i run the FS 1212. My fleetgaurd book shows the dimensions as being similier and it's micron is alot better than the screen.

Thanks, Keith
