Am considering a Fass fuel pump lift and filter system. Friend has one and swears by it. Considering the cost of rebuilding injection pumps these days. Does anyone have any coments on increased fuel milage? I know that it will improve (or prolong be better said) the general life of the pump. I see several mesages about using them but no info on installing one and if the fatory unit is pulled in lue of an after market. Last but not least where the Fass system can be obtained, preferrably on line to avoid those pesky st. taxes. Any imput is apreciated.

2001 24valve unit.

We sell the FASS units here in MN, (we),Torque Diesel Performance. Anyway, the units have a 3yr waranty. Very easy to install, and you can hook it directly to the VP44 or the way I have mine is I am still using the factory filter housing, but have 1 larger banjo bolts from the fuel filter and 1 large banjo bolt at the VP. Install instuctions are very easy to follow. You can keep your factory L/P in place for a back up if ever you think you may have a problem. So far for all the FASS units we have sold and installed we have not had a problem. Brad from DPP is heck of a guy and keeps us at Torque Diesel Performance well up to date on all that is going on, including dyno results from the FASS units on all makes. Hope that helps, Jim.

Only complaint with the FASS was the somewhat weak looking mounting bracket that came with it. That setup is HEAVY and I didn't think the wimpy bracket would hold up for long. Fortunately, we were putting it on in my friend's machine shop. So, he welded a piece of angle iron to it and beefed it up a bit to my liking. Not even brackets are spared from the BOMB bug.

Just something to look at/consider when you get yours. Other then the bracket, the install went fairly well. Just don't overtorque the banjo that goes into the VP-44. I overtorqued mine and broke the bolt off inside the pump. An ez-out took care of that, though. Best of luck.

Fass

I built my own bracket from 3x3 1/4" steel angle and a piece of 1/4" 6x10" flat plate, I have a short bed and installed it up underneath the fuel cap where they are installed on the long beds, it's tucked in nicely there and I wouldn't move it an 1/8 of an inch in any direction,it just fits , I can say that it is much easier to unbolt the bed and block it up as opposed to lowering the tank, I've installed two of these FASS systems so far

I know the bracket is a little week, Brad has told me he is working on a new ones for short beds. We build stainless steel brackets and require no drilling at all. Over all a great unit.
