Fass And Bio Diesel

I have somewhat of a strange issue... this all started within the last 4 tanks of fuel from a station that I normally don't fill up at. I am not sure if it was LSD or ULSD cause some stations around here are and some aren't marked right yet. Any way I go start my truck, depending on outside temps it will prime between 4 and 7 psi. Then I start the truck and it will go to 8-10 psi and then slowly go up to 13-15 psi at idle. My psi has always been at 13-15 psi at idle, 12-14 cruising, and never below 11 psi at wot even in 100 degree heat. What would be causing this slow build of pressure. The pump always turns on, primes, etc. just fine. I have already changed the fuel filter and drained the separator. Which is why I don't think the brushes are sticking. Everything reads normal, just delayed. Please help! Thanks, James

James,

A couple of questions.

Where is you pressure gauge connect at?

Are you still running through the OEM filter?

Kevin

I get my pressure from a T in the line about a foot away from the VP and its a FASS 150 system so the filters are on the unit itself, HF6604 & FS1023... .

you mean the spring that sets the pressure... . why would it still be at the pressures it has always been if the spring is broken?

your pump still has to push alot of fuel through a small orifice if the spring is working or not. i would think you could build presure against that alone. and if the spring is weak or broke it may let some of the fuel drain out of the pump. refilling your pump might be the delay. its just thought, good luck

Boy does this thread make me glad as (expletive deleted) I did not buy a FASS.

I notice the rapid response time of the reps. Not to be a jerk, but give me a break. I had a minor issue with my airdog, and the tech rep was out, so they gave me his cell number and he worked with me after business hours.

Whoever owns fass knows so little about customer service. .

Just so you all know I have had Dan help me out in a previous situation. He did give me his cell # and met me after hours on a Friday night to give me some parts. (yes you did give me a spring before, I didn't change it b/c everyone else told me the pressure was fine) I am going to swap the springs this weekend so hopefully that fixes it. ( I will start eliminating things 1 by 1 if it does turn out to be my FASS, Dan if it is ok with you I will just call you directly. I will post my findings here.

The guys down at DPP are busy. It is not realistic for someone to sit on the internet looking for people that need help. There are other customers besides those on the TDR. It seems as if those that don't have a fass are the ones that are quick to point the finger. I am only trying to find the easy possibilities first before I undo the bigger stuff.

You still have my cell number?
I put it in my cell phone when I first got it, That way I recognized the # when we were talking back and forth. I meant to say that if I couldnt figure it out that I would give you a call because I dont have a dealer. I bought my Fass used from a buddy.

Well I changed the spring, I now have 15 psi at idle vs 13. Psi doesnt bounce around as much. Now it will prime to 7-9 psi, start the truck and goes to 13, the slowly creeps to 15. I am thinking that it might be the brushes? The pump has about 65,000 miles on it.

What was the problem with the Airdog?---curious minds want to know----so far it has outlasted my earlier Fass.

Well it is back to acting up again. The first time I ran it after changing the spring was as in my previous post. Next time I started the truck primes sort of ok, then goes to 10 psi and sits there for a few min slowly creeping up. Go out this morning, primes to 4 maybe 5 slowly, then I start it and goes to 8. It took over 5 min to get to 15 psi. I guess I will check my gauge and isolator next, even though they arent a year old. Then the vp (it only has 18,000 on it). Then the Fass I guess?

The output was a little below 13 psi, so he sent me a new spring for the overflow. I tell ya, the old carter never hit the 13ish psi that the VP is supposed to like, and I know the engine sounds happier with a good supply.
