Any one familiar with the FASS relocation kit? I have seen a version with a fuel filter that I think goes between the fuel tank and pump?

I just finished a relocation on my truck. I didnt get the Vulcan kit, but did get the Fass DDRP bracket. I also bought the fass DDRP pump, which I hope is a good decision. I suppose like any other thing, they will fail too - sooner or later. My wiring to the stock pump on the engine had already been spliced, so I just cut into the splice and added about 6 ft of 16g wire and loomed it in a plastic sleeve to the the factory connector to the new pump. I decided to to use rubber fuel line from the pump to the factory filter. Eliminates a couple possibilities of air leaks.

I mounted the bracket just behind the transfer case on the inside of the LH frame rail. There was a hole there that is just big enough to get my hand inside for the back-up nuts. When I bolted the Fass pump on, that flimsey bracket would vibrate - too much weight on too thin of metal! I could see that bracket breaking and dropping the pump down to the pavement. I used the factory bracket from the engine, which also covers the hole for the mechanical lift pump that isnt used. I used a chrome fuel pump block off plate for a SB Chevy, about $7 at O'reilly. Same bolt pattern.

I also didnt like that "thimbal" size fuel filter they send with the Fass pump. I ordered a spin on filter base from Napa (part# 4309) for about $45, which lets you run a BIG water/fuel seperator filter (Luberfiner FF2D) I drilled and tapped the frame for 5/16 bolts and installed it between the tank and filter. I can post a couple of pics if interested. I also did several other changes 'not in the book'.

Some pics of your installation would be great. I've been running the FASS DDRP for several years now with no issues 14 psi at idle and never goes below 7 psi at wot. I'll be dropping the tank to install a jeep liberty fuel module, current module/sending unit is shot and original module no longer available and thought that would be a good time to relocate my DDRP. How is the new system working so far?

Here are the pics of my install. Sorry to be several days getting this on.

For the fuel filter mount I used the hole in the frame where the clip bolted for the fuel & brake lines. I drilled and tapped the other two holes, and the hole where I moved the clip to the left for the lines. For the pump bracket, I just picked a spot where I had it as high as I could on the frame, and I could get my hand in the hole for the back up nuts for the pump bracket. I wanted it bolted through since there was more weight on the pump than on the fuel filter.

For the filter, I used the FF2D, which is a large filter. About $8 from a farm & home store. Also, you can use the big fuel filter from a '82 or '83 Chevy truck or Suburban with the 6. 2L diesel. It is a little shorter, which may be better if you ever try to high-center your truck! Also available at any auto parts store. Napa also has the filters, but they'll hit you for about $20 ea. I always fill the filter with clean fuel to help things prime up whenever I replace it.

Dont forget if you use the factory fuel pump bracket from the engine like I did to get a block off plate to seal up the mechanical fuel pump hole! I also relocated the factory fuel filter from the head to the frame. ;) I havent run the truck since I did this install since I am still elbow deep in rebuilding the front end and lots of other 'stuff'. I had a similar setup on my '92 and it worked great. My friend Steve Keim (keimmmo- past TDR member) also ran a setup similar to this.

Hope this helps!
