It was 49 here this morning and I expected my heater to take a long time to produce some heat. My power-stroke used to take 10 minutes of driving before I even got warm air. To my surprise I had hot air coming from my vents in less than 2 minutes of driving. Will it be this way when the weather gets down around freezing? Or is the block so big on these CTD that they can retain heat for 12 hours?

Same here, it has been down to 37 so far, I had heat within half a mile. I just get in start it and go. I have felt the block in the morning and it is cold.

Last winter it seemed to take several minutes to get heat. That is a whole lot of water, oil and metal to heat up and there is a lot of air to heat up in the QC as well.

Engaging the exhaust brake helps somewhat. Once the heat does arrive, it gets cozy in a hurry. The dual controls on the Laramie have worked out very well for us, both with the heat and the a/c.

For anyone in cold climes: the heated leather seats get a five star rating from these tired old buns of mine. It is an option to give some serious thought to, imo.
