Now that I have my alignment problem fixed I'm thinking of adding FAST COOLERS and a MAG-HYTEC rear differential cover. Anyone have any experience with either? I'd like to hear both good and bad. Thanks.

Good timing I just put both on yesterday, 5-18.

The Mag-hytec went on great, no leaks. I finger tightened up the bolts and then did the the torque wrench bit, I'm anal so I tightened halfway and then to full torque recommended 12-16 lbs. I then poured in 7 1/2 qt of Royal Purple 75-90 (I was unable to find Redline, Found it now though. )

The Fast Coolers were easy also, no leaks either. Spread on some RTV let set and then bolt them up. I added just shy of 7 qt of Redline MTL. I used a small funnel a pump would be nice though.

Did a test drive no leaks and added 1/2qt more to the Mag-Hytec full mark.

Today I drove up to Seattle and back (100 miles round trip) and still no leaks. I like both, I also noticed that the transmission shifts better now. It could be just my imagination but as long as I THINK it shifts better, it does shift better.

I was paranoid about my mag hytec for the first few days, always checking for leaks. No I don't even bother, I can't find one spot where there is even remote sign of a leak. It's a nifty unit, comes with all the directions, tools (albeit cheesy), and its really sharp looking. I like the idea of having a dipstick and a drain bolt. Plus the temp sender, though i don't use it.

I can't vouch for the fast coolers. I just changed my oil and put it back together with royal purple synchromax. Everyone here likes them though.

Ordered

Thanks Guys, I ordered both units from Geno's and will have time to get them installed a week from tomorrow. I was planning to replace the oil with what ever Mopar recommends for the transmission and differential. What are you talking about when you refer to royal purple and redline? Is that the name Mopar uses for their oils?

Redline, Royal Purple, Amsoil, and many others make synthetic oils for transmissions and rear ends. Do a search I believe the title is "What do you put in your NV 5600?" something like that anyway. There are about five pages of opinions on what to use.

I originally wanted all Redline but could not find the Rear Diff. fluid, So I then went the RP route, because it is carried by almost all of the local NAPA dealers. I buy the rear diff. fluid because the sales girl said they were out of Synchromax and would have some in a few days. Well low and behold they don't carry Synchromax nor will they be. So I used Two different brands.

You can go to

www.royalpurple.com

www.redlineoil.com

to get info on these two products.

There are so many oil wars out there it will make your head spin, I thought I was buying the easiest stuff to find in my area. I have now found the full Redline product Line and will probably stick with that. Although I am set for a long time now.

Check this out first...

Put the diff cover on and have a drip. E-mail'd Mag on it, see reply below:

Subject: Re: Cover leaks

Hello Ben,

We have found that the bottom hole that we eliminated with our cover sometimes runs just on the edge of the o-ring track of our cover. Thus lets it weep a little bit. The fix that works the best is what you suggested, and that is filling the hole up with silicone. Sorry for the hassle of doing that but it should take care of the problem. Give me a call on Monday toll free (877) 786-6816. I will be willing to help you out with a better quality gear lube if you don't want to go through the hassle of recovering the existing gear lube. Look forward in talking with you.

Put the cover (from Geno's Garage) on the 14-11. 5 rear last weekend (03 Dodge Ram 3500 SRW) and still dripping. I did "oil" it prior to install and at first thought that was it but it is still dripping. Re-torque'd the 12 bolts and it appears to be the lower end, between the 2 bottom bolts (where the original center one was left off). Should this hole "maybe" have been "blocked" with some RTV, or did I "possibly" get a bad cover/ o-ring (checked it before install and didn't "look" like it was).

More of my msg I deleted as irrelevant. Serial # of mine is 329.

Hope anyone that is putting one on does the rtv in the bottom hole FIRST (like we had to do on the Dayna's #'s.

Ben,

Thanks for that post. A couple of weeks ago I was under the truck and noticed a little lube on the rear cover, now I know why.

Next time I change the lube, I'll plug that hole.

Thanks,
