Has anyone done a before/after temperature check with the Fast Coolers to see whether they actually provide any significant transmission temp reduction - especially in towing situations? OR, is their primary advantage basically limited to the benefit of a larger lube capacity?

I did a search, but specific info seems scarce as to the typical actual measured temperature reduction. Also interested in who sells the accessory NV-5600 lube filters, and any comments on their effectiveness.

Man, info on these is SCARCE! :-laf

BUT, after some digging around on this board and the Internet, I think I have my answers - looks like I will want a SINGLE Fast Cooler, and a lube filter from Quad4x4 for the best of added lube capacity, combined with filtration of the lube.

NOW, what I need is someone with a single Fast Cooler they are willing to part with... :D

Just saw a single one in the classifieds. It's been a while since I added the coolers to my trans. but they made 10-15 degree difference. That is not much but at least they do help some.

Gary is the Quad 4x4 filter the same as the Geno's tranmission filter kit. If not why do like the Quad kit better? I am interested in installing a filter also if I do I will have an extra fast cooler you can have cheap. It might be 6 months before I am ready for an oil change though?

HMMmmm - I looked thru the classifieds, and didn't see any - I'll look again more carefully.

I haven't checked in a while but PDR would always sell me a single when needed.

If I can't find one from a private party, I'll give them a try - thanks.

They may well be the same, but I looked on Geno's web pages, and didn't see any listed, and a web search came up with Quad4x4 as a source - good pics displaying the filters as well as descriptive info - I'll take another look at Geno's.

OK, found the guy with half a Fast cooler, emailed him.

Found the transmission filters on Geno's, same as the Quad4x4 units, but only about half the price (about $43), so ordered it from them.

SO, it looks like I'll be running half a Fast cooler setup combined with a lube filter - hope it helps the transmission as advertised!

I think the Filter get installed on the passenger side as that is the direction the oil will be thrown to by the rotation of the transmission.

Gary:

To date I have seen about a 40*F drop in temps accross the board.

Went from running over 200*F empty to running 180*F loaded with the camper and trailer (similar air temperatures). And normal driving seems to be about a 40*F drop (unloaded/similar air temps).

I'll know more tomorrow as I plan on draining the Amsoil out and filling with Redline MTL and MT-90. The Amsoil had sheared pretty good in 10k of more/less empty running. If you search my name and NV5600, you should be able to find amy UOA on the MTF. Or you can look over at BITOG in the transmission UOA section, I posted it there too.

I'm running dual coolers (no filter) so I can't tell you what a single cooler will do, but something is better than nothing.

Since I will only be able to use a "Half-fast" setup :), I'll try my usual backyard experiment that has worked extremely well on my VP-44,

and see if I can install 2 PC CPU heatsinks to each side - 2 on the fast side, and another 2 on the filter side. That may well provide as much or better cooling surface as the Fast Coolers themselves - IF I can establish proper heatsink-to-cover plate contact for heat transfer...
