im about ready to change my NV4500 fluid but before i do id like some input on either the fast coolers or trans filter. i leaning towards the filter (price and its a filter rather than a cooler) what would i benefit from better??? TIA

If you do a lot of heavy towing, then the coolers would make more sense. Otherwise, go with the filter kit. Even then, these transmission's are built for towning and can handle the heat so you still may be better off with the filter kit.

I just changed the filter on mine after ~40K miles. The filter was black and the oil, which is practically water clear when new, looked like regular fresh oil. That is, just a little color. I strained about a cup of the used oil through a coffee filter and virutally no residue was left behind. So these filters seem to do a pretty decent job.

I'm not familiar with the Fastcooler's internal workings, but I know the filter kit has a special slot that appears to be designed to catch the flinging of oil off a gear to get the oil inside the housing, then it drains through the filter and back into the transmission housing. If that were mounted on the end of the Fastcooler housing, it may not actually get any flow through it.

Don't know. But is should be investigated before spending the money. But if it works, its a heck of an idea!

The plate from the filter kit with the scoops goes first, it is modified by drilling a hole and bolting the filter on using a long #10 bolt with an end plate and locknut, then the fastcooler and original PTO cover are used instead of the filter kit cover. The filter plate must be instaled inside the fastcooler, not outside or there will be no oil flow through the filter.

I have pictures but my camera wont talk to my computer right now so they are stuck in the camera :(

Well, I follow that even without the pictures. That's cool! (Literally)

There ya go, 0013. A little modification and you can have the best of both worlds.
