I am going to change the fluid in my 5sp manual and was thinking about installing the fast coolers? What experience has anyone had with these? The truck does tow lots. Also what synthetic fluid can I use in the transmission? How much fluid with and without fast coolers? Any tricks that make the job easier?

I put them on my 6 speed. Very easy install. Check the clearence on the exaust pipe on passenger side. I went with Redline mtl and noticed a big difference in shifting. Much smoother. How can you go wrong with the added volume of oil for cooling. I think it added 1 quart per side(2-total) but cannot remember for sure.

I have had a set on my NV5600 for the last 2 years. I also use Amsoil 5W-30 Series 3000 full synthetic motor oil in the transmission. I also have a SPA temp gauge in both the rear end and transmission.

When I am moving at speed, the rear end is always 15 - 20*F hotter than the transmission, so in my opinion, the FastCoolers do a good job. When I am idling, the transmission and rear diff are usually about the same temp.

Install Tip

When you go to install 'em, completely clean the oil off the mating surfaces and out of transmission so it doesn't dribble out on the mating surfaces.

after applying RTV, I finger tightened all bolts in cross-pattern and let truck sit over night. Then I used torque wrench. I filled the gear oil in through the top fill hole of the FAST Cooler using a drill operated pump ($10 at hardware store).

Nice setup.

Ditto to what has been said. I have the ones with the lexan covers. Save the money and use your OEM PTO covers. I never look at mine. No regrets on the coolers though!
