Here is a fast idle setup I threw together today. This is a door lock actuator for some type of auto. I have no idea of make for this item. I bought it from a on line store for $5. 00. It wasn't worth the effort to run the junkyard to that price.

This little thing has a 3/4" stroke to it. It can be powered to go eather direction. Push or pull it doesn't care. I setup to push. I didn't want to try to mount in around all the shift and throttle linkages.

I'll post some pic's of the bracket tomorrow. The white stuff on the battery is snow. I had about 1. 5 hours in the fab work.

It will not stay that color. I just left it that so the pic's would show it a lot better than the black. It will end up.

Sweet!! What do you see for rpm's? I like that it doesn't interfere with the throttle linkage and has no actual attachment to the linkage.

I do not have a tach yet.

I slotted the holes and it wasn't all the way forward eather. I got around 1200 rpm as a guess. I was set to move the throttle around 3/8".

That was my thought also. I didn't want anything else hooked up that might bind. There is enough there already.

Very nice Philip. I am still using the ice scraper wedged between the seat the the go pedal. It sure makes it hard to scrape the snow off the window though. Guess I will have to drive like Ace Ventura!:D I will have to stop by and take some notes.

If you get one of the actuators before you stop by.

We can whip one out real fast. I have enough alum flat stock to do another one. I wired into my cargo light harness. I never use the cargo light.

Here is the website. Catalog number is DLA-1 $5. 50 plus shipping.

Here is the follow up on this project. Sorry about the delay. But with temps below freezing and winds in the 15 to 20 mph range. This project went on the back burner.

The pic's preety much tell the story on size and so forth. But if anyone has any questions. Throw them out.

I forgot to add the flat stock is 3/4" X 1/8".

The mounting screws are #6 X 32 X 1 1/16" long.

The mount is made of two pieces of flat stock as you can tell. I would have liked to have them welded together. But our only welding shop in this town closed a while back. So that is why it is made this way.

I don't know about some of the later model cars what the trunk locks look like. But on the 70's to middle 80's. I don't think they have one that would work very good. They were short stroke and very weak on pull/push strength. But if you have one handy try it and get some pic's. I would like to find somthing a llittle smaller to experment with. :D

I tried a chevy fast idle solonid for an AC car. Stroke was to short.

Well guy's bad news. This little actuator didn't hold up. It died this morning. :(

I had done tests on it with a DC power supply. The longest amount of on time I tried was 20 minues. Which is about the amount I warm up before I take off. I had about 2 hours time on it. But it was not loaded aginst the throttle pressure eather. So this morning when I started up. I went back into the house. About 10 minutes later. I heard the engine idle down. :(

I went out and I had lost the radio and high idle. No power on eather. :( I check the actuator. It was stuck in the retracked postion.

Well thats one down. Time to try the next model. Stay tuned for the on going adventure of find something to make a good high idle system cheap.

:D

Looks like I am back to the ice scraper crammed against the accelerator. Maybe I should just drop a brick on it instead . . . :D

Jeremy

Yea me to. :(

I am still looking for something to work. It was nice to walk out get it running on all 6. Then hit the button and walk off. :D No messing with the ice scraper.

Whoa Here guys,

Did you check to be sure that it was the actuator that went bad? I wired two lights into my cargo light circuit and it blew the fuse just like you were talking about. Maybe it's not a loss!!!!!

I have tried it. I there is no continuity threw it when checked with an ohm meter.

I also checked it with power straight from the battery. It is toast. The plunger runs threw a small gear setup. It is frozen in one place. :(

I wonder if the old fast idle solenoid from a Quadrajet carb is still avail. aftermarket. I used one on an old propane farm pickup while boosting irrigation engines. Just wired a switch into a hot wire running to the solenoid. Worked for years. Just an idea.

I tried one of them last year. Not enough stroke for the cummins. In warm weather it was all right. But in cold weather it does not go out far enough. You need 1/4" min. to get the rpm up enough when cold. Or at least mine needs a 1/4" or more.

I have been playing around with this for a couple of years. I'll find a strong enough solenoid yet.

I want remote start and high idle is needed with it. If the engine won't idle then remote start is a waste.

High idle

I think we need a "continuous duty solenoid". Now where to find it, with the correct stroke!! jps
