So I've been noticing on my '14 3500 with 3.42's that when causally driving around town that by the time I get to 40 mph I'm already in 6th gear. Especially when coming up to a hill it bogs the motor and I really have to put my foot into it to get it to down shift. Are these new trucks supposed to go through the gears that fast? It sure would be nice to pull longer rpm's in between shifts.

Also, is there such a thing as a dead pedal? The other day I had to quickly pull out into traffic and I mashed the pedal and the truck started to move forward then it didn't go anywhere. If I hadn't taken my foot off the gas and re pushed it again to get moving I would have been creamed by the oncoming truck. Has anyone else had this happen?

Your signature doesn't say which transmission you have. The Aisin will quickly go through the gears if you are not putting your foot into it much at all. I have 4.10 gears, so I'd imagine that you would feel that it is going through the gears even faster. As for the "dead pedal", there are quite a few post here about it. Do a search for "dead pedal" and you will find them. It unfortunately is common and does effect my confidence at playing chicken.

I believe its the 68RFE. Is there some reason they designed this transmission to do that? I love my custom transmission in my '95, hard firm shifts and it pulls longer rpm's in between shifts

Try running in Tow/Haul mode and see if you like how it shifts better.

This is what I do when the roads are not icy and I don't have to worry about aggressive down shift and rear braking skids. It does prolong the shift points. It should help you like the transmission.

I can add for the person posting that I continue to have the dead pedal issue described even after the most recent reflash that lists slow turbo response as one of the things cured. Going back to the dealer again soon to do the test ride to document. For some reason, not everyone has this problem and is likely a torque management issue built in to keep us from "peeling rubber" off the line. Mine is slow to boost in first gear as well. I now ramp up the rpm when I anticipate passing by selecting 5th or 4th on the stalk or dropping to tow/haul. Helps cut down the three second delay getting into passing gear.
