I'm looking at the second set of Fastcoolers for installation on my truck. Like the first set, each one has one machined surface that is flat, that is it will lay on a flat surface and not rock. The opposite surface will rock when layed on a flat surface. I've been able to slide a . 030" feeler gauge between the cooler and a straight edge. Seems like the odds of having a leak are significantly increased by not having a flat sealing surface. Am I being overly sensitive here? Has anyone else noticed this "feature"?

I never noticed on mine, I would just put the flat side to the trans and the warped side under the PTO cover, it will flex . 030 no problem.

I noticed the same thing. I took mine to work and had the machinest put it on the power lapping table where we resurface hydraulic pump end plates and port plates. He trued up both surfaces. By the way, if you're wondering how I used the cooler with a 47RE, I put one fast cooler on my 241HD T-case. I split the purchase with a buddy with a 5-speed P-Stroke who wanted a cooler on one side and a filter on the other.

Regards, Mike

Great idea Jared, I'll follow your lead. Thanks for the link to the pictures.

PKleine, I know you might not have access to a milling machine or lapping machine but I've done some hand lapping with a piece of glass and some wet-n-dry sandpaper. Put a piece of sand paper on the glass and wet it with cleaning solvent and then make figure 8's with the fast cooler to keep the lapping even and then keep checkng the surface with your straight edge until it is flush. I hope that helps. I don't know if I was over critical but I wasn't happy with the fastcooler's sealing surface either.

Mike.

I started plaining the end of the fastcoolers now as of 7/15/06. I had not done this in the past. This leaves them absolutly perfect and they lay perfectly flat on end. It also deburs them nicely. If anyone has had any trouble with them sealing because of this, let me know so I can take care of it for you.

I contacted Fastcoolers about this and they promptly sent out a replacement set. The replacement set's surfaces were flat and parallel; very satisfactory. I returned the other ones in the same box. I have to say the customer service I received was outstanding.

Fastcoolers installed leak free.

All this happened back in late April - early May, so I guess I'm a little slow to post the good news.
