Mt]y fasten seat belt light will go off just after starting the truck but then will come back on after a minute or so. It then stays on until you shut the truck down. This will go on for four or five days and then stop for a few weeks. I have tried cycling the ignition for or five time with the success. Seems to just take a few days for it to start working properly again.

Any ideas?

Thanks

Scott

I have the same problem from time to time. I lived in Fairbanks, Alaska and it seemed to happen only during the winter. I made a couple of trips to the dealer for the seat belt light, but after the long trip the cab would get toasty warm the light would go out. Of course, they never found the problem. I played it off as a matter of life living in such a cold environment. It happened a couple of times in a six-month period.

Now, I live in Florida and again when the temp drops the light stays on. Same same as you Scott. It's just plain annoying.

I think there is some kind of.....

"micro-switch" in the "reciever" for the belt that does not function correctly when dirty and/or cold. Maybe try blowing it out with air and then using some type of spray lube. I used this method about two weeks ago and my "problem" has not come back.

Don't know how the Dodge system equates to a GMC, but had a light stay on in '92 recently. Switch in the receiver end had failed, dealer only part, you had buy along with the receiver end half of the center belt and the retracting side-- $280!!!

I just shorted together the wires where the belt attached to the floor--problem solved for free.

My seat belt lite does the same thing & has for acouple of years.

Dealer said there was some module that needed replaced for only $285!! When the lite comes on I just reach under the seat & unplug the connector for about 15 seconds, plug it back in & lite goes out for another couple of weeks. Good luck.
