I currently have a #5 plate and 370s. The fastest I can climb a certain hill with a GCVW of 16K is 50 mph at only 1/4 throttle to keep EGTs under or at 1250. If I did not care about the EGTs, the truck feels like it is capable of hitting 70-75 mph. My question is, Would I be better off for towing and climbing hills with a milder plate and/or injectors? For example, would a #8 plate and DD2s enable me to climb this hill faster because EGTs would be lower?

You are somewhat over the limit in hp for the HX35, definitely should use a 16 housing if you continue with that turbo. The HX40 would help a couple hundred degrees. I like to get Pius to zero balance my turbos now, as they last WAY longer. Holset does a poor balancing job for out use of the turbos; i. e. they see over 20 psi.

Big injectors and small plate in general give best egts. However, you won't get much of an improvement with any combination vs. what you have and moderating power with your foot. Your setup should give around 350-370 hp with the right turbo.

Thanks for the info Joe. Sort of what I was expecting... . need a bigger turbo. My plate is in the center position, would sliding it back help any, or am I still pretty much limited to 50 mph on this hill unless I get a bigger turbo?

rrausch,

Clint called me this morning and said they were having a problem locating a '96 47RH core, since most all '96s came with the RE. They were going to just send all the parts for me to have installed locally. Got good news this afternoon. Clint called and they found one and will have it ready to ship tomorrow. I should be getting it early next week. I hope to have the truck running with a new full meal deal ATS by next Friday with the electronic controller. I will post my experience driving and towing with the new trans after I use it for a few days.
