Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) charging problem

Last fall my on-the-frame fuel pump died and I had to have the truck hauled home from Colo. Springs by AAA.
I now think that pump failure was the cause of more problems to come.

Since the fuel pump failure the next problem I experienced was the APPS as I had a code for it being bad. I've installed a new APPS and I still have been lacking power upon acceleration. Surging, over revving, in 3,4 & 5th gears.
Reset the APPS voltage several times to no avail. Truck was still drivable around town, just don't try to pass another.

Then the fuel filter drain started leaking, so I took off the fuel filter canister and found that the two bottom 6mm screws were stripped out. Had a machine shop re thread the holes to 8mm. No more fuel leak. Whoppie!

"Now for the rest of the story". Who has heard that before?

Wife and I left 9 days ago for a road trip, but we took her car. On the way home yesterday she asked me if my truck was OK? I told her that just before our trip I read a posting by a TDR member about his truck not being driven while he was away for a week and he came back, started the truck and the VP44 threw a code and died.

Dam... . That is just what happened to me this morning. I didn't even get 3 blocks from home. Couple hours later I was able to get it started and limp home. WHEEEE... .
Code 230 and the all familiar 1693.

I ordered a VP44 from MWFI an hour ago and It will be here tomorrow. Should be easier than the time I had replace the seal behind the front gear cover. That required the cam removal and 3 days wrenching. Kind of fun now that I think about it. HA! HA! HA! Time to end this and start wrenching.

Cheers to all. Keep smiling :-laf:-laf:-laf
