Hi Guys,

I brought my truck in to the dealership because the "check engine" light was coming on and the culprit was a faulty crankshaft position sensor??? The guys in service were already gone when I got there so I couldn't get any questions answered. Anyone ever have this happen? At first, I almost had a heart attack when I saw the word "crankshaft" on the paperwork

I also went out on a limb and had the reflash done for the cold weather high idle.

Thanks for any input.

Paul

Mine died 7-miles after I wrote the check for my new truck! Took them a week to fix since there were no parts available back then. Everything else has been fine to date (currently at 27,000-miles).

P. S. You should have also noticed that your tach was either bouncing or completely dead.

I just noticed yesterday that my tach was not moving smothly it kind of skiped when I spead up from 50 to 70mph. Is this something to worry about. How much did that part cost?? 29,000 miles , do I need to take it in now to be checked??

Eric-

Not sure how much the part cost as it was definitely covered under warrantee. If it is the sensor going south, I think that it sets a code which can be read by the dealer. However, I would think that you would also experience a rough running engine and a "check engine" light.

P. S. I just realized that you have an auto. Did your transmission happen to lock up or slip as you noticed the tach skip?

My crankshaft position sensor failed at approx. 25k miles. It was intermittent at first but failed completely after 500 miles.

The tach goes nuts as well as other gauges on the dash. In all of it the truck ran perfectly, never missed a beat. Replaced under warranty.

To date the CPS and later the APPS were the only things that failed so far in 84k miles.
