Okay, I've a 98 12 valve 3500 and once in a while(especially after an oil change), when I'm slowing down at a light , the oil pressure gauge will immediately drop to zero and the check gages light will come on. If I wait for about 5 seconds, the light goes off and the gauge jumps up to the regular pressure. It is not a gradual drop or rise , which makes me think it is an electrical problem and not a mechanical one. Any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated.

we have similar truck and my oil sending unit did the same thing to me the staeler replaced mine for a way to high fee but it was worth the piece of mind that everything was ok been fine since the change about 25K ago hope this helps

Go to NAPA and buy the oil sending unit socket. About 12-15 bucks. Buy a new sending unit and just unscrew one and screw in the other. Oh don't forget to unhook the wires before using socket. JM. 02

Just a word of caution, quite a few folks have reported that non-dealer/Cummins senders don't last long. One part that you are better off skipping the auto parts store and paying the higher price.

I agree with iflem I was told to let the dealer or at least buy the dealer /cummins sender they are supposed to last longer it was not expensive to let the dealer do this for me. Around 50 bucks. Good luck. :)
