Got to fly to No Idaho next thru. to pick up my new CTD 3500. Hope it wasnt the first one built but must have been pretty close. I love not dealing with high pressure salesmans. Dave Smith motors has been great!

Ditto for me, I picked up my 04. 5 in April and had a very pleasant day at Dave Smith, even took them up on their BBQ lunch. The town of Kellogg has a few other business's but Smith motors takes up a large portion of the area. I went there becuse the CA dealers would not deal much from MSRP, so off to Idaho I went.

Be sure to get a CA certified weight ticket before going to DMV, they will not accept the shipping weight from your invoice. I didn't know this and had to go to DMV twice. You can not register through AAA or a registration agency. A DMV inspector has to see the "CARB" emissions on the engine.

It's on the engine sticker, and it's necessary for your truck to be registered in California.

Do yourself a favor and do a search for "CARB" in this forum.

That's right, it's on a sticker on the left side of the valve cover and you will have the "CARB" sticker only if you ordered the truck with the "YCF" option (border state CA emisions) which I assume you did. You will also receive with your package from Smith (in about 2 weeks after delivery) a certificate stating "THIS VEHICLE IS CERTIFIED FOR SALE IN CALIFORNIA" be sure to take this to DMV. The "CARB" alone won't cut it, you must have both. You should check the emisions sticker before taking delivery, if it says "FED" or "EPA" you will never get a CA registration. Some will tell you that you can drive it for 7800 miles and then bring it in as a used vehice, but I know a guy who tried this with an HO engine before they were legal here, and was turned down because he was a full time CA resident and could not show proof that he ever lived anywhere else.

Good luck, and enjoy your trip.

You might get lucky. The new rebates are coming out Sept 1st. Right now it $1000 might be more after the first. If you see a bunch of black streaks along Hwy 95 it was probably me lighting up the ponies!! Anyway good luck and have a safe trip. Jim
