#@$%!Without going into detail, I have had problems in the past with dealer service shops diagnosing and repairing problems. I am in a new area. I have an issue. I gave a dealership a chance to fix the problem. $850 dollars later, the problem is not fixed and they have no idea what the problem is. I n eed help diagnosing problem and a finding a mechanic who knows how to repair diesels.

The truck is an 04. 5 170k it has a bullydog powerpup programer and a FASS fuel pump. A few weeks ago, my brother was driving the truck. The serpantine belt broke. He said he had to cut some of the peices. I had a new one in the truck and he installed it. He drove the truck a couple of hours, no problem. A few days later he took the for fuel and he notice a loss of power.

The truck sat for about a week and I took it for a drive when i came home from vacation. A 30 mile drive to someones house and the truck would randomly lose power. The best way I can describe it would be the truck would just start coasting as if I took my foot off the pedal. When I press the pedal I would have no response. While driving the truck back home, the check engine light came on. I cycled the key and 4 trouble codes came up. P217, P483, P2121 and P2502. I explained the problem to the service shop. They explained to me that the fan clutch needed replaced. When I got the truck back the check engine light was out and no DTC. within 5 miles of driving the power problem started again and was happeing often in a 50 mile trip. I noticed the problem more often when maintaining a steady speed as oppose to a heavy acceleration.

Any thoughts on the problem?

Any good diesel mechanics? Im in the Pottstown area of Pennsylvania

P. S. I am trying to save money to get married

If you were close to east Texas I could offer the ideal solution. Take it to TDR member Mike Mullenax at Elder Dodge in Athens, TX.

You're too far away but you might pm or call him at the dealership. He is very likely to be able to diagnose it.

This is info I was able to get from various sources across the net:
P0217 = DECREASED ENGINE PERFORMANCE DUE TO ENGINE OVERHEAT CONDITION
P0483 = Low Fan Speed
P2121 - Accelerator Pedal Position Sensor Circuit 1 Range/Performance
P2502 = Charging System Voltage Problem

Sounds like something got messed up there in the front when the belt broke. Where did you take it? Quigley?

I don't have much experience with the 3rd gens, but I'd be more than willing to take a look at it for you. Let me know.

Is it possible that when the belt broke or stripped it wacked some sort of sensor, or wiring in the area ?

JMO, I would do a good physical inspection. Could the intermittent loss of power be from some sort of limp mode as the truck sees a potential engine cooling issue?

Good luck

Check the crank sensor for wears for breaks. If it's broken, it may be sending intermittent signals, although it's strange it's not throwing a different code..... also, get the codes cleared. I think as long as the engine overheat code is in there, it's going to run at a reduced power rate, "safe mode" some call it. The alternator code was probably thrown when the belt came off, as it wasn't charging, but still read the crank signal that the engine was running..... same for the fan speed. The APPS sensor code could be the problem. If you have a bad APPS, the ECM can't read what you're doing with the foot pedal. Some of the belt may have gotten over into the wires going to the APPS, as well... ... doing a search here for the APPS in the 3rd gen forum may give you some tips, there.

Its a way from Ball Ground, but you might try Ringgold Dodge, up in Ringgold. I bought two trucks from them, and their service was outstanding. You need to call them to make sure the tornado this spring didn't wipe them out - - - also give Geno's Garage a call - - they are pretty close to Ball Ground and know everybody in the area

The engine overheat code may be a red herring. I would agree on having it cleared and trying again. It doesn't sound like the engine is derating, instead it sounds like a total power shut down. The truck acts like it has a TPS issue. The throttle position sensor on my truck was acting up, and would just dump to idle. After a few moments, it would go back to normal.

Just a shot in the dark. Good luck though, and post your results if you get this figured out.

If you don't want to use a dealer, call Jeff Garmon at Garmon's Performance Diesel. I think he moved his shop to Griffin. He was in McDonough.

His number is 404-557-4972.

He does great work.

I'm not trying to be a smart Azz, but when did you last change the Filter on the FASS... they generally have a lower micron rating than the stock filter.

If that filter is plugged, it can definitely affect driveabilty!!
