Im looking to get some fender flares. my tires are just about 3" outside of the fender. I was looking at the ats flares but i am worried that they dont have enough coverage. they look like they tapper off alot at the bottom of fender. The bushwacker extenda flares are an other option but ive heard a lot of horror stories about them eating the paint. please let me know what you guys think.

Bushwacker has a ruber molding that slips over the edge of the flares to help prevent paint damage. But over time you can expect some wear on the paint where the contact point is. Extend-a-flares will not give you 3" though, you will need to go to a pocket style.

I would reccomend against the bushwackers. They look nice however they do scratch the paint underneath and i am wishing that i did not get them. I am looking at applying line-x to my fenders now. You however need fenders. I have heard about ats flares and i have not heard stories about them causing damage. I'm sure a search will pull up some results.

i know the extenda flares from bushwacker are only 2. 25" but i think that will be plenty if need be i can run flaps also. my wheel and tires are 20 x 9. 5 procomps w/ 5. 25 backspacing and the tires are procomp xterrains 33 x 13. 5. does any one have pics from the back of the bushwackers. they look alittle wider at the bottoms than the other brands.

I would forget about the paint rub under the flare. I think its a non issue unless you plan on taking them back off after they been on there a long time.

With your tire/wheel combo you need some protection or the sides will end up looking pretty bad from the constant spray both dry and wet to the paint.

I am pulling my ATS flares off to install PW flares so maybe you would like to buy them? (220. 00 shipped) They are silver but can be painted.

Not my truck but a nice pic, looks like pocket style that have been line-Xed

Another fella was asking so I put a tape up and it looks like 1. 75" to me they might be 2" but definitely at least 1. 75".

They are the exact same flare as SilverRam, here is mine-

I had the Bushwhacker extenda flares on mine for 4 years. In a nut shell there junk. ! Do not waste your money. !

1. The little rubber strip that is supposed to stop the flare from rubbing through the paint fails in time and the paint get rubbed through to the bare metal in areas eventually.

2. If you spend anytime on bush roads etc. brush and whatever other road hazards will tear them off the truck, and break the plastic at the same time. These flares are not held on by much in the first place, so it takes very little contact with brush to tear them off and break them. I lost count how many times mine were torn off, usually I never new it until someone handed it to me.

3. And probably most importantly. Road crud builds up in behind the flare betwween it and the body and settles to the lowest point. Being abrasive it wears through the paint and causes rust.

I sent my Bushwhackers to the dump. My truck is patriot blue and silver like Serria Rams. I had all the silver done in Linex including all around the wheel wells so it looks like I have flares. I would highly recommend this approach.

Funny I have never had any of those issues and have ran them on all of my trucks. The issue is I have to run flares to keep the police off my back. I will consider Line-X when the rockers need to be refinished, at time I will Line-X under the flares as well.

It may be a "non issue" if you only own the truck a couple years, but if you keep it a little longer I think you'll find the rusting fenders to be very much an issue!
