I know this has been asked a dozen times, but here goes again. I have my 285 bfg A/T's mounted. now I need fender flares. I like the look of the bushwacker pocket type flares. Does anyone have these? Pics? I think I am going with the black on my silver truck. Thanks for any input.
I am overtly satisfied with my oem "Powerwagon" flares. This is the way a CTD 2500/3500 should come fitted from the factory. Great fit & finish, resist stones, rocks & debris, easy install, although a bit pricey but worth it.
I just added the pocket flares. My wheels have 6" backspacing, so I didn't need to cover up the tires, but I wanted to control all the mud and crap that gets thrown up on the side. I'm a little worried about them getting scratched and chipped, but I didn't think black flares would look good on a two-toned truck.
I have the bushwacker extend-a-fender flares on mine. See reader's rigs.
I had them color matched and clearcoated along with the door spears. That was a few years ago, and there have been some chips in them from rocks but I just touch them up with paint pen and all is well.
Here's another shot of the pocket style bushwackers. Fit is very good. I've had to take mine off a few times as well (turbo change, etc. ) and R&R is very easy. As far as the paint rubbing issue, some have said to use black rtv where the flares contact the truck to prevent dirt/abrasives from getting in there and rubbing the paint.
I am going with the Pocket flares and was concerned about them rubbing the paint as well. To remedy this I will be having Line-X sprayed around the wheelwells to match the contour of the flares. The Line-X will be taken out 1/8" of an inch past the flare to ensure they do not rub. This will be done in conjunction with my rocker panels So it will be two tone black on silver.
