It appears my truck will be on the buyback list. Wonder how soon they will be sending out notice and how bad they will 'stick' it to me!

4x4s only; therefore, I'm assuming this steering defect is "death wobble" related. If so, there are a LOT more vehicles (including non-FCA vehicles) that should be subject to this recall. I wonder if any of the federal regulators ever did a search for "caster wobble" which has been affecting solid axle vehicles since the first automobiles and trucks were produced.

I'm thinking the defect is related to the tie rod recall which I've never had done on my truck. Sounds like the replacement parts were bad too.

So I guess we are all in a holding pattern to see if we are 1 of the 500,000 trucks that will get recalled?

Or do they have website or something that we can check?

For anybody interested, you can go to the NHTSA website and read the consent decree. Page 13, para. 34, buyback offer will be purchase price paid by the first purchaser of the vehicle, less a reasonable amount for depreciation, but not including the cost of modifications made to the vehicle after the first retail sale. Additionally, FCA must offer a premium of 10% above the Purchase Price to any owner of an unremedied vehicle electing the alternative remedy. FCA shall notify eligible owners within 60 days.

I just read an article in our morning newspaper about the recalls. It said 2009-2012 trucks and the owners will have a couple of choices. They can opt to have their truck repaired or have it bought back. The buyback price will be what the owner paid for the truck minus depreciation.

That could be a significant price loss on the older trucks that were bought before the big price increases. Probably less than current market value.

I wonder if this is only going to be 2500 and 3500 series trucks or if it will include the 1500's also. My 2010 had the tie rod ends replaced under the first recall. I'm interested to know if it will be effected.

I believe the 1500's are included in the recall during the posted years. It was in the News link I read. But verify?

Geez...I was hoping they would buy mine back.....:(

If you read the details, the buy back price is the sales price less depreciation. It's not a full refund program and FCA is not sending the recalled trucks to the scrappers. FCA has the option of repairing the recalled trucks and re-selling them. It may end up as a good for FCA since there will be trade-ins of recalled trucks for new trucks and will make available more used late model trucks for sale after they are repaired.

Sounds like it's mainly 08 thru '12 4 x 4 models.

In 2013, they modified the 3500's with new and beefier front suspension/steering. But they didn't advertise a change in the 2500's in 2013 which basically kept the same frame as 2012 and same suspension. Wondering if they really fixed the problem for the 2013 2500's? Or if the 2500's just fell through the cracks on recall and and buyback for the 2013 model year because the NHSTA just assumes the 2500's and 3500's both received the same upgrades in 2013?

I'm not sure I'd buy one of those trucks now.

Something happened this morning because all of a sudden we are getting Sterling Bullet steering linkage recall requests. I just ordered 6 of them.

Mine's had the '08.5 "AE" upgrade for years along with Thuren's heim conversion for the driver's side TRE in dispute.
I might just reinstall the stock tre whenever I get the airbag recall and see what they say.
I thought the keyed upgrade prevented improper installation and that did it.
Maybe one of the techs on here can lend some information.

looks like i'm getting a 2016...My dealer has had me on a 'list" for the TRE. So, if its a good offer, I'll be getting a 2016

Considering that this is bound to at least marginally effect new truck sales, we should be able to swing a fairly good deal in this process on a new one.

It still blows my mind that the same exact steering set up is okee dokee fine on my 06? Whats up with that? Is there a magical line of fairy dust and unicorn snot protecting the early third Gen owners? I just don't get it....
