Engine/Transmission (1994 - 1998) Fifth gear shifts hard

Have a '95 with about 10 k on trans rebuild. The day we left for Branson, (about 20 degrees F). went to town to wash and wouldn't go into 5th. kinda like hitting a wall but if I held it in it I could feel it catching the gears a little bit-but wouldn't snap in. Thought the nut came loose again, About 5 miles later I had 5th gear again. Went south 500 miles no prob. Then every AM after that, takes about 3-5 miles till it goes in 5th. (temps were in 30's every AM). Wouldn't go in sitting with engine off either. thanks---

Your 5th gear nut is loose.



Sometimes the 5th gear will slide back into place so you can use it, but doesn't mean it will stay there when engaged or have the possibility of chipping teeth from not being in place when being used.



Time to bite the bullet and get it fixed, if it is not still under warranty.
