Fifth wheel bucking

Am the owner of shiny new 36 ft toyhauler, probably weighs around 13k. When taking off from stop get bad shaking at ~30mph and ~45mph. Can make it stop by putting in clutch or flooring the accelator. Truck several inches below level, going to fix this with air bags. Have news shocks and tires all the way around. Any ideas?. Forgot,

truck is 97 2500 CC 4wd 5sp with #8 plate and 100k miles

Might be bad drive shaft angle due to load lowering back of truck. Does it quit just by letting off on the throttle and get worse as you apply more power?

Add some truck information to your signature so that we can tell a bit about your truck. It might help get more accurate responses.

To change your signature (the stuff at the end of your post about your truck), click on the "user cp" button at the top of the screen.

If it only does it now that you have weight in the bed, it is most likely the drive line angle change. You can correct it by using tapered shims between the springs and axle mount. You will correct it loaded, but then might get the vibration unloaded. The factory service manual gives you the step by step procedure to measure the angles. You will need a bubble protractor. The best one is made for measuring drive line angles and attaches to the U-joint cap. In a pinch you can use one from Sears, but it is not as accurate. You can also add spacer blocks to the rear, but again you might be trading loaded shake for unloaded. Best way is to find the happy medium. The tapered shims are only about $15. 00 at a good 4x4 shop. Also check the center bearing if you have a two piece shaft. Good luck.

As others stated about drive shaft ,also the pin adjustment is critical as it increases the pin weight the pin can be adjusted and the weight of trailer should be checked and each axle load checked relocation of some weight and unload of water or other stuff or relocating to even out the load is the weight of 13000 empty or loaded ? Tire psi should be at near Max for tow . Air bags are a good idea . weigh the rig first and go from there . The Gvwr for a 2500 is about 8800 truck weight about 6600 so you have to keep in mind the pin weight and adjust the load . Hope this helps . Ron in Louisville KY:D

I think I get the same rocking. The one you get when you learn to drive dumptrucks, starts lurching and magnifies rapidly. It is the worst in 3rd or 4th when your accellerating. I know of another with the same problem. Seems to be a 5 speed thing.

I don't think its drive angle. It is worse the heavier the load is and seems to have magnified with HP. Grossing 22k on gooseneck I get it bad usually not on flats though. Truck is running fairly level. No trailer 3000lbs in bed sitting on overloads. Not a bit of shaking.

Possibly axel hop? Auto's don't seem to get it. Are our spring wrapping and with no converter it gets out of control. Worse in gears closer to direct and lower RPMS because of the torque we are putting down?

As I was shown, just power though it :)

just some more thoughts,

jumpy jerky truck

Had the same problem with my 98 , it turned out that the throttle linkage had to be changed , It was a kit installed by Chrysler and it took care of the problem for me , you might want to check the archives and you should be able to come up with the kit number ect . good luck
