Archived Filled truck with GAS not Diesel !!

My brother was using the truck, went to a gas station and they filled the truck with gas instead of diesel. I don't know how he never noticed but he drove about 15 mins then called me saying that it was bogging over 1700 rpm. Do you think that it damaged the motor or pump ? 98 12v P7100



Oh yeah whats the best course of action ?

drain all the fuel out of your tank... change your fuel filter..... check all your pickupscreens and what not... . and i would run a lot of PS and marvel mystery oil to lube your pump back up... im sure someone else will chime in shortly...

1. shoot or beat brother, depending on if you need him later or will have to provide fiirst aid. Fleshy parts are best, won't kill will hurt bad.

2. drain tank.

3. add conditioner to fresh fuel.

4. change filter.

5. beat brother again, or let him know how pleased you are #@$%!

Drain all gasoline from truck pour it on brother, light match. Seriously, tow truck to a Cummins Service shop and have them remove all gasoline from injectors, engine, fuel tank, fuel pump, fuel filter and hope for the best. It may have done some damage. Good luck.

I'd think that the 7100 could take it. It doesn't need the lubricity of diesel fuel as bad as a 44 would. Sounds like it was a top off, not a complete fill up from empty (as in the majority of the fuel is still diesel).



I'd think a drain of the fuel tank and changing the fuel filter would be enough?

Drain it, refill it with diesel, change the filter, add additives and go for a long drive. Happens all the time in the diesel world...

12v's run on anything. Don't worry about it but make your brother think he owes you one

Yeah to all of the above. I did the same thing to my 3rd gen only I discovered it before I moved so went next door to drain tank change FFand also I added 1qt. of 30w non detergent to first full tank of fuel and never looked back. Going on about 20k and no problems.

My dad has an old 1st gen 3500. On one trip home a few years ago he found himself out of fuel and the small town he was in didn't have any diesel left to sell. He needed to get home because my mom was having emergency surgury the following morning. He put 5 gal of unleaded and several quarts of ATF and 30wt non detergent in the tank and drove it 90 miles to the next town. Filled it up there with good ole #2 and finished the balance of the 300 mile journey without incident.



That truck is still running today. It had about 60k on it when he did that and last time I checked it has over 350K on it now.



Them ole 12 valves are TOUGH, TOUGH, TOUGH... ... ... .



I would think a good drain, fresh filters and some fuel treatment and you should be good.

Which brings up the question: if a person were stranded without diesel and HAD to get somewhere disregarding hurting his truck, is there some ratio of gasoline to motor oil that would be optimum to make a reasonable emergency substitute diesel fuel???

I forget what the ratio is but we used to do it all the time with gas and 30w oil mixed.

I am an American who lives in central Mexico. I have found myself needing fuel to get to where I could buy diesel a few times. I have mixed a gallon of gas with a quart of used motor oil several times. It SMOKES like crazy!!! But, It didn't seem to cause any problems. Just don't run hard... it will probably make some insane exhaust temps!



A few quarts of cooking oil is also a good option in an emergency. I have done that too.
