I've seen a couple 2nd gen guys complaining that the high flow at the truck pumps is damaging their sending units in their fuel tanks... fueling up at auto pumps is painful enough sometimes, so I just pulled the ball out of there...

was really looking forward to 1 min fill-ups on the road, but if there's potential for damage, I'll just put it on one click...

any input?

I'm still on my first sender and it works fine. I usually run at the first stop on the pump handle then tilt the nozzle back and finish filling my main tank that way. By tilting the nozzle you can adjust the flow to eliminate air in the fuel - works great. Just adjust the flow so the fuel stream is clear.

My aux. tank does not have a ball and it's much easier to fill - it's full after the second click of the nozzle. Hope this helps.

Happy trails:)

no problems

:) When i dropped the tank to change the sender, I also removed the ball and have had no problems at all. Tim

Dumb question...

What's the ball and where is it located? In the tank, or in the fill tube?

When I go to the truck pumps, mine will only take the first click on the fill nozzle. Some pumps put out even more and it won't even set on the first click. Would be nice to be able to do the "quick fill-up" thing. :D

it's in the metal fill tube... unscrew the three screws that hold it to the body and then loosen the hose clamp that holds the metal tube to the hose going to the tank (and the vent hose as well)

you'll see the ball down at the bottom of the neck... pop that sucker out and put it all back together...

before mine would take the first click at SOME truck pumps if you positioned the nozzle just right... I went to the truckstop up the highway the other morning and was able to give it the full flow!!! :D

Watch the Flames!

I did this modification several years ago with no problems what so ever. The filling of the tank is much easier.

I got flamed big time by several firefighter-rescue squad members! Understandably!

The ball is in the filler for roll over protection so the fuel will not come out of the filler when the truck is on it's top. As long as you are aware of this fact and are responsable enough to except that without any intervension from your attourney you will have no problems. I would also mention this fact to any future buyers of the truck!

Good info Stab...

Just curious, how does Dodge accomplish this feature with the second gen trucks? Or do they? Because I hear they can take the big truck pumps' flow as they are stock.
