Mayby this has been mentioned before but in case it hasn't here is my minor brainstorm.

I was changing my fuel filter the other day and I had a thought. I remember reading that some people don't like to pre fill their filter because that fuel is unfiltered and they would rather pump the primer button to fill the filter. And if I recall correctly some people had problems doing this and had to prime until the cows came home. So here is my thought: Put a plug in the center of the filter (rubber or whatever) and slowly pour the fuel through the small outer holes (it flows through quickly) it passes through the filtering media and (whalla) a full filter of filtered fuel.

Anyone else doing this, It sure beats a lot of priming?????

Fill the fuel filter

Pushing the lift pump button eleventy-seven times is a pain in the finger. So I pour fuel into the new filter through a small funnel and a coffee filter, and then I thread the filter on. Cave Man technology, but it works.

fuel filter

I put my new filter on dry and crack the 10mm bolt loose on top of the filter housing a pump the primer about 15 to 20 pushes and the filter is full in no time. :)

The rubber button on a '96 is located on the driver side, below and slightly to the left of the fuel filter. It's part of the lift pump. It's easier to pump it with a short stick than your finger due to all the brake lines and various plumbing in the way.
