I installed a BHAF on my truck a couple of months ago. I put the filter minder in the ell just before the filter. My question is, Do I need it? It pulls the filter minder all the way down, on a new filter. This also happened on the stock airbox before I swiss cheesed the bottom of it. Do you guys with a BHAF run a filter minder, or did you can it?

Thanks, Randy

Mine is on the AFE intake. It is only there to plug the hole. First time I put my foot to the floor, mine is in the RED. When I need to open the hood, I usually push the button, but not necessary.

Early in the 2003 production series (prior to 28 February 2003, at least), the wrong filter minders were installed on the trucks. The internal spring was too weak, causing the minder to be pulled down even on a brand new filter. There was a TSB to replace the filter minder with an updated version. Does yours have numbers on it? The newer versions had no numbers, just a green and a red area. Of course, now I can't find that TSB.

There is a lot of conflicting info on these minders, they all seem to be different.

Mine has pulled down to 35% since day 1. I took the paper filter out, added the aFe along with taking a hole saw to the box, that got me maybe 5 maybe 10%.

So, a freshly cleaned and oiled filter is about 30% ... ... ... ... when it hits 50% I pull and inspect the filter. Is it accurate? Against what? It's a reference gage only, and mine seems to work okay for that.
