Amsoilman:
Some time ago I used to run an OBERG remote oil filter on a boat I owned. The filter "media" was a stainless steel screen with extrmely small peforations in it... similar to the screen in some coffee machines. The filter was non-disposable, meaning after so many miles(or hours) you would dissassemble the filter, clean the screen, reassemble it and return it to service because the media itself would never wear out. What was extremely fascinating was to see the stuff caught by the filter. That's nearly impossible with modern filters unless you saw them in half. I believe the level of filtration in the OBERG was no less than current oil filters.
Not long ago I saw a cannister filter of the same design at . System 1 makes a filter specifically for the 5. 9 Cummins and they stated the screen will filter down to 10 MICRONS. This would be the last oil filter you'd have to buy.
Your posts have always been very informative and almost always unbiased. Is there anything negative you (or anyone else) knows about these stainless steel screened reusable filters? If not, I'm going to buy and use one for my truck and for the boat we now have. Cost is about $85. 00.
TIA for your comments.
