Filterminder all blowed up

I popped the hood the other day to drain whatever water may have been in the filter housing and I saw the yellow piece from my filter minder laying loose. The top had fallen off or blown off somehow and the guts were just laying there. The top portion of the case was cracked all the way around like when you chew on the top of a styrofoam cup.

So now I'm back to the X-intake. I was kinda liking the 4" dryer hose cold intake.

I've never seen a filterminder self-destruct like that. You?

I have replaced about a half dozen on 3rd gens that had come apart like that,one on a 2nd gen but that was a hungry rodent issue.

That's funny. Mine has been obviously chewed on by something but still holding together. Anyone know the price of a new one?

I am about ready to bypass that thing altogether and get a guage for the truck. The KW I run for a guy diong silage has a guage so we know when to clean off the intake screen. It has a N14 and while loaded under full acceration the needle will barley move if the screen is clean. Another nice guage these have is a vacume gauge on the filters to tell you when they need to be changed.

Anybody know where to order one? Local auto parts store just gives a dumb look. I found them online at K+N, but they want $31+.

I've thought about plugging the hole, but it's not as simple as it sounds. Try it sometime if you don't believe me. A simple bolt might work but I really don't want a bolt/nut going thru my intake system. And trying to get gaskets to seal it up w/o going to a huge bolt is no picnic either.

The bolt that holds the 12v tin cover for the valve covers is just the right size in the grommet to seal tightly.

Try a heavy equipment dealer for a new one. I don't know how much, but a good parts guy should be able to find it quick.

Another nice guage these have is a vacume gauge on the filters to tell you when they need to be changed.

That's a good idea. I keep forgetting that I have a vacuum gauge sitting unused. Need to hook that thing up in the filter housing.

The grommet came out kinda nasty lookin' so I tossed it. As luck would have it I found another one. I stuck a 1/2" bolt in there and RTV'd it. Should last longer than the filterminder.

I'm finally back to my $5 CAI.
