I hate to admit my confusion but I need to place a Geno's order tomorrow and even after attending the May Madness lectures, I am not quite certain which of the new fuel filters are the best to use...or the best buy. It looks like there are three to chose from. Racor, Fleetguard and Mopar. Although the Racor is listed as a water separator and is chassis mounted, it is not listed as a nanonet so I guess that is not one of them. The other two are 3 micron but about 23 bucks different in price. Fleetguard (more expensive) is Cummins as I understand it but what is the Mopar, if not Cummins?

At least it appears I can use the same oil filter I have been using on the 2004.5. But we also have a choice on the air filters for the 2014. Only a seven dollar difference here but one is Mopar and the other is Fleetguard, aka Cummins, and that one is LESS expensive. I have been using the Mopar air filter on the 2004.5 because it has an extra layer of filter ahead of the pleated area.

Sure could use some advice here and if I can save some beer money that would be even better. I'll keep a cold one ready for you.

Mike

Just last night, I ordered the Mopar. Just thinking of the warranty issues if something goes wrong. Be sure whatever you get is 3 micron.

From the manual:
"Use MOPAR® Fuel Filter. Must meet 3 micron rating. Using a fuel filter that does not meet the manufacturers filtration and water separating requirements can severely impact fuel system life and reliability."

Mike,

At May Madness we were told that for the Nanonet engine mounted fuel filter intended for the 2013 and 2014 trucks, Fleetguard makes them for Mopar. So no matter which one you decide to buy (Mopar 68157291AA or Fleetguard FS53000), you'll be getting the exact same thing. This is a case where you can safely shop price.

For the chassis mounted fuel filter (Mopar 68197867AA), that one is made for Mopar by Parker-Racor (ParFit PFF54529). As far as I know, the only practical source for it is currently Mopar, and of course their distributors like Geno's.

Best regards,

John L.

Thanks, just added them into my iPhone reminder list that I have for the truck #'s.

This really helps me. But...one more cobweb to clear out. I am under the impression that we have two fuel filters. One by the tank and the other by the engine. And that they are the same 3 micron filter. Unless their are three filters in line, one being a water separator, we must be using two different filters. Is that a correct assumption? I warned you all I was confused about this issue. But I'm beginning to see the light. Or dark if I'm under the truck. I thought I heard that by using the 3 micron filter at the chassis mount that you are doubling the protection. I also must admit that my head was swimming with all the information gained at May Madness but this info did not make it into my notes. Thanks to all for for helping me.

Mike

Thank you John. I will be calling Geno's and filling my supply cabinet with all the different products. I won't be getting anywhere near the required mileage changes for filters but time will cause me to change these at about 4-5K miles. I average about 10-12K a year and since I kept my 2004.5 for now, it will be less than that for the '14. I guess I need to get out more.

Unless their are three filters in line...
Technically there are three fuel filters on board, but one isn't normally serviced...

There's one built into the fuel tank module before the transfer (lift) pump. :)

Now a trivia question:

How many fuel pumps does your truck have?

John L.

Well besides me standing standing beside the trunk pumping fuel, I would think just one, in the tank. But I have a feeling I am going to the back of the class again. I'm pretty comfortable there though. And I have made lots of friends. :)

I would think just one, in the tank.
How about three?

  1. The transfer pump in the tank (as you noted).
  2. A Gear Pump attached to the rear of the fuel injection pump which produces 80 to 180 psi.
  3. And then the fuel injection pump itself which produces 2,901 to 26,107 psi.

John L.

Quick refresher what is the change interval on the filters. I was under the impression that they both were to be changed at 15k, or once a year but my display is telling me to change at 10k.

Quick refresher what is the change interval on the filters.
I believe we were told by the Chrysler rep at May Madness, that just like engine oil, the fuel filter change interval is calculated by an algorithm taking several factors into consideration. I'm guessing gallons of fuel consumed is high on that list, in addition to such things as engine hours and miles traveled.

John L.

Plus, the manual says regardless of miles and what the evic says, it must be changed every six months........

Sam

OK so now I am going to change mine tonight, my question is where is it in the manual how to reset the evic for the fuel filter change I see the one for the oil filter but not the fuel.
