Next big idea for the young diesel lover...

I'm looking for advice on fuel filtration.

First off, does anyone know what the micron rating is of those small clear filters, like you'd use on a carb'd engine before the carb?

Is this an acceptable filter for diesel? I'm planning on using one for my aux tank. Mainly to catch bigger junk from getting into the main tank.

The 2nd question...

I am working on a waste oil filtration setup and wondering what I should use for filtration? I am currently using a clear filter like mentioned above. I have thought about using the screw on filters, but they are 1" pipe and I'm only using 3/8". It seems really overkill.

those carb filters are anywhere from 25µ to 50µ. if it is one of those wire mesh filters, they will be fine with diesel. .

you can get hydraulic low pressure heads that have a 1/2" npt on the in/out. with a spin on filter, you can easially change the filter and filter rating. 1"-12 is common for hydraulic filters [and detroit diesel fuel filters] that would work good for filter out your waste oil [can get ratings down to 5µ easily]

Would you know of a source for that?

I've check the local farm store and also Northern Tool here and Texas. I found one at Northern Tool that was 3/4" pipe and that's the smallest.

most of the clear ones seem higher than i remembered, they are up in the 80µ-100µ range

as for size, i know princess auto up here in canada has those cast aluminum filter heads in 1/2"npt, but the same filter is used for 1/2", 3/4" and 1"npt [all 1"-12] so you can always use bushings to drop it down to 1/2" or smaller if you can't get the right size on the filter head.

[i was just at princessauto today digging through their hydraulics stuff. . got a pressure relief valve that will be my fuel pressure regulator once i find a correct weight spring to swap out the one in it (150psi-3500psi spring now)]
