I finally got rid of my muffler this weekend and am now 4" straight piped from my HX40 to the tip of the tail pipe. Oh, Baby!! what a beautiful sound!!!

I had always been jealous of every truck I heard that was straight piped, and now mine has that deep, rumble, big rig sound that I had so longed to acheive. I have the 4" Jardine system, with the Magnaflow muffler. I just called them up, said I wanted to eliminate the muffler and keep the exit in the normal location, and then sent me a 30" section of straight pipe to replace the muffler with for $20. What a great bunch of guys

I just had to post about it since I still have :D:D:D all over my face!

Well, if I can figure out how to do that, you have a deal Rick. I just don't own anything that records sounds... ... maybe I can figure out to make my laptop record??

Will have to look into it.

Tom

I love that sound too. I have never herd a auto straight piped so Im a bit skeptical to take the plunge.

I have heard at least two local TDR members trucks with straight piped autos, both 12 valvers. They sound every bit as awesome (to me anyway) as a stick truck.

Tom

Sky, with your DTT transmission the auto sounds really good straight piped, I have heard a couple. The only thing you will be missing is the whoosh between gears.

If you guys says its sounds just as awesome as a stick then I will give it a shot, I could always put the muffler back on if I dont like it. WTH Im going to give it a shot! Oo. :--)

Well Carl, since it's only been 2 days now, I can't say anything yet. Although I very seriously doubt any gains will result. The Magnaflow muffler that I had on the system for the last year is a straight through design muffler, so I can't imagine it restricted exhaust gas flow in any way. Also, I don't expect any mileage gains or differences either. But after I have a chance to put a couple tanks of fuel down the road, I'll be happy to post any updates.

The only possible drawback I have noticed, the noise level in the cab is somewhat louder at highway speed, cruising at ~2000 RPM with the radio off and all windows rolled up. It doesn't bother me, but it might bother some people.

But idling, and when you romp on the diesel pedal, and especially when you drive past anything that reflects the sound back at you with the windows down, oooohhhh baby!!!! :D:D:D

Oh, I am going to be at the NorCal Diesel Rally in Napa, CA July 5,6 & 7 if anyone is going to be there and would like to hear the sound. I will also have my 2 1/2" Skyjacker lift kit installed by then also.

I might have to check this out. I would like a little deeper sound, I thought about a shorter muffler. Makes it sound like a logging truck. You shoud hear the cummins on a hill in east texas with the 5er in tow.

Hills?

You uoght to hear it with a big trailer up here in the MOUNTAINSOo. :D or pulling away from a stop sign in town on an inclined road with the sound bauncing off of the houses:-laf

hehehehe Was in the Bay Area (SillyPutty Valley) this week on a business trip, driving Godzilla in all that exciting traffic

Anyway, I noticed several people would roll their windows up when I drove past them or sitting next to me at stop lights, and then rolled them back down after I passed them or they passed me.

Now I don't intend to be rude to other drivers, but man, that really tells me I do have the perrrrrrrfect sound :D:D:D:D

Tom

I believe I might part with the muffler. It is a Magnaflow straight through type. I had to "pursuade" it with a ball peen hammer to get it to slide off the end of the pipe when de-installing it, but it only dented the end of the muffler a little, did not cause any structural or performance degredation.

Feel free to either PM or email me directly if you'd like to discuss it more.

Tom

I, too, have a straight piped rig, and I LOVE it! That was the first modification to the truck when it was a mere 24 hours old!

The sound my truck emits turns heads everywhere, and also results in many rolled up windows.

Just wait, Tom, it only gets louder!!!

Jennifer

P. S. Have you rapped it out under an overpass yet? OH BABY!!!
