See new sig... this is for y'all non-believers... DROP THE CAT AND MUFFLER!!! I was able to do it for $30 ($20 for the pipe and $10 for welding) and a few hours of cussing and moaning... but it was definitely worth it!!! I measured w/my stopwatch my 0-65 mph... right at 13. 5 seconds... sounds like a semi truck under accelleration... idle and cruising no louder... in-cab same except under heavy pedal & decelleration (beautiful turbo "UNWIND)... sounds better w/passenger window down... especially when you're lugging it (under 1600 rpm in OD). And you can't put a price on the grin it will put on your face once it's done... #ad

Already turned a few heads. . and only w/single pipe...
BOTTOM LINE: Don't hesitate: Lose it and be done w/it..... just don't throw out your CAT... just in case!
P. S. Does this modification classify me as a bomber yet??? Would love to know... YR
P. P. S. : For all y'all ex-Army & Marines... sounds a little like a Deuce... mainly during decelleration... YR

I yanked the cat today. Muffler is still there. (My neighbor is still pissed at me burning out on their lawn, have to let them cool off a while)
EGT does seem lower, but I dont have enough miles on it to be 100% on this.
Power? Eh, maybe a little more. Like I said, not enough miles yet.

So Patriot... what's the holdup on dropping the Muffler too... your not chicken are ya?? You can always put it back on if it's too loud for you or the truck accelerates too fast... #ad
Seems to me it would have been more trouble to NOT drop both...

Well, I was planning it as the cat only, so I soaked those bolts with penetrating oil only.
It's not very rural where I live, and I work really insaine hours (to put it mildly) so I thought I'd spare them... . at least for now.
Besides, I didnt have a pipe to replace the muffler with!! #ad

You can measure from front of the CAT and run your tape to just aft (3 inches) of the muffler... easier than using two pipes... I estimated at 6' w/expansion on both ends (using 14 gauge Alum pipe)... but I was 7" too long. (This is w/Reg Cab... might be longer w/QC-long bed) Had to trim both ends for connection to work. Make sure you check the fit of your new pipe... when in doubt, have it welded... you don't want exhaust fumes creeping into your cab...

I got to see the inside of a stock muffler at the Octoberfest in Tulare. There are so many baffles inside of it, I am suprised that my truck runs a good as it does. The cat and muffler are going 'road trip' the same day... .
