Yeeeeeehaaaaawwwwww Oo. Oo. ... ... . I never imagined that it would sound this good. I have had nothing but compliments so far. Some of my diesel owning friends can't believe how good it sounds, compared to the semi stock state that it was in before. I would have done it myself, but I found too good of a deal, in Loveland, to pass up. Anyway, I can't figure out if I have lost any power or if my butt just can't catch up to my ears. Has anyone dynoed or run the 1/4 with just an intake and straight pipe, and if you have, have you noticed a difference either pos. or neg. ? I am thinking that maybe I do not have enough a@# in the motor to move that much air????? I guess it doesn't matter because the sound is worth a few ponies if that is the case.

I am missing my CAT presently and was concerned if I removed the muffler how much loader is it? I am not sure if you need to pass inspection stickers as we do in Mass. What was your previous semi stock state and how much of a difference in sound level?

I to want to try a straight pipe on my 4. 5...

Please post a follow up after a 10+ hr trip on the interstate. Thats all it took for me to pop for an exhaust with a muffler. Around town, nothing is more fun than a SP. Bouncing the sound off buildings is fun. Rompin on it to pass people with their windows down. Priceless. But the looks my wife kept shooting me after a trip from MI to Chattanooga and back combined with my ringing, aching head from the drone just wudn't worth it.

JP. No cat and SP is loud. Spin people around in their front yard loud. Smack lockup as you pass someone with a window down and they'll let go the wheel and cover their ears loud. :-laf :-laf For everywhere but late night campgrounds and interstate, SP is great.

Third gens do have a raspier drone than previous generations. SP 12v is the equivalent to a diesel Ferrari, IMO. Sounds perfect. :D

I did a dyno with no muffler and the BHAF intake with mine a while back and I pulled 588. 4 torque, and 312. 8 hp your is probably close if not a lil higher since you are lacking the cat.

I cut open my stock muffler and gutted it. Left the inpipe and the outpipe. ! welded it back together and it sounds pretty good. Not even close to as LOUD! I can roll down my back windows and still hear the radio.

Before I pulled the muffler I had installed an AFE stage II, pulled the silencer ring, and the cat test pipe. In my opinion, if someone didn't know what a stock exhaust sounded like, compared to this set up, then they wouldn't be able to tell the difference up to this point. Now that the muffler is gone..... holy cow. You ask is it loud? Oh yeah... if you want it to be. Like Amish Elegance said about bouncing off of walls or anything for that matter, it is loud, but it's like anything else, if you want it to be loud it will be LOUD, otherwise, it is not that bad. That is stricly MY opinion. As far as my wife goes, she loves it. We have always had duals on our gasser p/u's though, so sound really isnt' a concern when it comes to her. She's great!!!! :D Concerning the drone that people talk about, I have not experienced it. We went out to I-25 yesterday to stretch it out and running about 80 w/ the cruise set, it was fairly quiet until you hit an overpass or some sort of hill, then it would sing. I am paitiently ( :{ ) waiting on the Smarty, for more fuel. Oh, I did get a thumbs up from a guy in a freightliner yesterday :-laf . Regarding the inspection question, we only have emissions testing as far as I know, this is the first vehicle that I have registered here because of the whole military thing.

I forgot to mention, while I was rambling, that the replacement pipe is straight, meaning no bends like others that I have seen. The place that I had it done at rotated the cat test pipe up and it lines right up with the tail pipe. This may or may not make a difference in the exhaust note becuase every little bend makes it sound a little different. If anyone cares it was $97 all together. That was 2 band clamps, the pipe, and installation. It would have been cheaper but they charged me $20 to not cut out the muffler so that I could set the truck back to stock if I need to.

JPereira-

i got pulled over by a state cop down in Bourne a few weeks ago, he only gave me a warning, but thats probably because i was out of state (and he was hoping for a DUI as i was leaving a bar). He said that in MA you cannot modify the exhaust to make it louder than stock in MA. I've been here for 4 years, 2 of those with a straight piped dodge, 2 with a straight piped chevy 6. 5, and this was the first time i've been pulled over for it. just a little information

Tim

(yeah i know i'm in the wrong forums)

If that's the case I better never go to MA... They would have a field day on me. 5" turbo back into 5 inch stacks beats anything I've heard...
