We have a Mercury Gran Marquis, 05. When it was new you could just think about passing a car on the freeway and it would downshift and grab some pavement. I thought the downshift to passing was too sensitive and took it in for checkup, service writer drove it and said all's well. So now it has 125000 miles and I noticed that it didn't down shift nearly as quick and it just didn't seem to accelerate as quick as before. Lo and behold, I was vacuuming the front floors and noticed that the floor mat on drivers side was buckled up under the accelerator pedal. Took the mat out and straightened it out and now everything is back to normal. It has the drive by wire system and the sending unit is evidently under the carpet and causes a square protrusion across the floor (under the accelerator) where it turn up toward the firewall so it doesn't take much to interfere with the pedal. bg

At 73, I wonder if I've got a floor mat jammed under my accelerator. My get up and go, done got up and git. :-laf
