I just did the 3k GSK and I'm starting to wonder if I put the plate in the same position as before. The felt tip markings were a little faded when the plate went back in so there was a tad bit of guess work there. How much can the plate be pushed forward and what is the HP range of the #6 in the full forward position?

The AFC housing is full forward now. Does this affect the smoke or power?

Thanks.

Steve.

I use a #8 Plate, the entry level 230 HP plate. I moved mine full forward, but got way too much torque & smoke at too low an RPM, and it ran out of power too early for me. I didn't have enough line pressure at the low RPM to keep the clutches tight. I found the ideal spot, (For me) to be about 1/16" ahead of the stock position. It gives me a smooth, strong pull all the way. I put the 3k GSK in later, and couldn't get any power after that. I then discovered the lever adjustment was way off, and once I got that set correctly, the truck runs like never before. (http://www.piersdiesel.com/LeverAdj.htm) The instructions with TST plate will tell you to move the AFT cover full forward, then adjust the star wheel to reduce the smoke level.
