I've been trying to learn by reading past threads, and came across a little procedure whereby you hold "trip odometer reset" for 6 seconds and the hours on the engine are supposed to display in that field.

Tried it on my '05 2500 CTD and no enchilada. Does that mean I've been coasting without my engine on? :)

Seriously, can I find that data on my truck or has this been exchanged for the extra 10 lb. ft. of torque. :p

With the engine off and the key turned to the position just before it engages the starter, depress and hold the odometer reset. The hours will then display. I usually perform this with the total mileage showing and not the trip mileage so as to not reset the trip mileage. Hope this helps.

I'll take that one step further: you MUST ensure the total mileage is displayed before doing the procedure.

Also, to clarify: FIRST turn the key to "RUN", THEN depress and hold the trip reset button. [If you depress the button first, then turn the key to "RUN", you'll just perform the instrument cluster self-test].

That did it. I didn't realize I had to turn the key to "just past" the on position, but your wording clarified it.

Now, only 98 stupid questions to go before I get the secret handshake. Can't wait! :p
