Finger Touch.

Sam I have it and like it a lot, some say it leaves about a half quart of oil in the pan, I dont know for sure but next time I change oil I will pull it and see, otherwise its great and helps make a clean job of your oil change. :)

Thanks for the reply, Chuck. I'm curious as to how the plug supposedly leaves 1/2 quart of oil in the pan though. The only way I can see this happening is if the threaded part of the plug is too long and extends up into the pan.

I have one and really like it. I don't know how much difference the oil left makes. I always pull a sample and have it analyzed. So far all the reports are very good. Some of the other members that have them drilled four holes about an 1/8 inch above the bottom of the plug to help drain out all the oil.

I have used the Finger Touch drain valve for the last 3 oil changes. It works great. I don't spill a drop of oil getting it out of the oil pan into the drain pan.

I does however leave about 1/2 quart of oil in the pan due to the valve sticking 3/4 inch or so into the oil pan. I usually put 10 quarts in the engine when I change the oil and the oil is half way between the add and full marks on the dipstick.

At the next change, I will pull the valve and drill some holes (What size?) and see what that does for the amount of oil left in the engine after the oil drains.

I have it and love it. I did drill the holes and I add 11 quarts when I change and it is right up to the full line. Does it leave any old oil in when drained. I don't know but I change at 3750 miles so even if some left not sure it hurts anything. Bottom line I like the easy fo changing with no muss no fuss. :)

I have the finger touch drain valve and really like it. I crossdrilled

4 , 3/16 holes just above the gasket and it allows all the oil to drain from the crank case. If you feel inside the drain plug hole you will feel a recessed area before the threads start. There are holes coming into this area on the bottom of the oil pan, thats what allows the oil to start draining when you slightly loosen the drain plug, it also lets all the oil drain out with the crossdrilled finger touch drain valve. Sorry for so long of a post but I thought others might not be aware of this Roy

Just curious to know how the drain plug seals. Any chance it will leak oil? I seen posts where people have drilled a hole and used metal wire to tie the drain lever down.

Thanks,

Charles

LEAK?

Not likely Charles, Its a ball valve, which are real reliable IMO.

To open it you have to lift it out of a notch and then turn it, so chances of it being knocked open would be slim to none.

I have put nearly 20,000 miles on the engine with the plug in place with no drips whatsoever from the valve. The spring that holds the ball in place is very stiff. The part of the valve that sticks down below the oil pan is also protected by the front axle. Not much chance of damage unless you are rock crawling.

Is anyone familiar with the Fumoto drain valve? It's identical to Geno's but they claim the drain Valve will not extend past the threaded portion of the drain hole and will allow the oil to be properly drained. It is the same price as Geno's and they also offer one with a nipple to put on a hose.

Also how long or fast does the oil drain with one of these compared to the O. E. plug?

Here's their web site

Thanks,

Fred.

Jumping on this bandwagon!

Just ordered one of those Fumoto drain valves. I'll let you know how it works when I get to my second oil change. (I will install it on my next change and then use it on the next so it will be a few months) ;)

How fast does it drain?

Fred its slower than the other drain because the hole is smaller, but I start the drain and by the time I have the filter changed it has drained, does not take long at all. :)

I've had mine in for over 30k and it doesn't leak and it drains all of the oil once you drill the (4) 3/16" holes just above the gasket. I think that folks have drilled and tie wired the lever to prevent some malcontent from drainig their oil, not because this could happen accidentally.

If you look at a stock drain plug you will notice that there is a non threaded area about 3/16" between the gasket and where the threads begin. Notice how right after you 'crack' the drain plug oil starts coming out. I believe that the oil drains through baffles on a raised threaded dew-hicky that is welded to the bottom of the pan. Check it out next time you remove your drain plug. After I installed the drilled one touch, next oil change I removed it to checked if all of the oil had drained and it had. 2 thumbs up on this one.

I've had the finger touch for over 30K miles and love it. Just be sure to drill 4 3/16" holes in the threaded section just above the gasket. You should drill the holes in the valve to match the holes in the pan. Good luck.

It's great with the P700 pump! I work evenings, so when an oil change is due, I get home, slide the pan under and open the valve. Next morning, the pump is drained and the oil filter has most of it's oil siphoned out.

In fact, I am going to order a Fumoto for my wife's Explorer.

I think and somebody jump in here. The Fumoto and the finger touch from Geno's is one and the same right? By the way I just drilled the 4 holes as shown by Big Bob links and did not try to line up anything inside the oil pan. I guess I lucked out :D

I had one of these on my Rx-7 and just loved it. I thought about getting one for my truck but was a bit concerned: On the RX-7 nobody could just crawl under it and mess with it. It was just to close to the ground. One my truck it would be very easy to do. Even if I caught the big puddle it would still be a pain. And if I did not catch it, it would probably mean a new engine.

Oh, I had the valve installed on the RX for about 5 years and it never leaked a drop! The oil was changed ever 2K miles so it got used frequently.
