Alright, i got an older edge box 3 stage in cab adjustable for a good price from a friend (free) couldn't turn it down. It had the hook up for the later style MAP sensor, on my 2000 I have the older style. After close examination of the adapter for the MAP I concluded that it worked like this, tapped into the 5v reference, then broke into the return, took that signal and capped it off at a certain boost level. So i took a test light turned key on probed the connector and found the ground, 5v supply Orange(right?) and return (i think grey with some stripe?).
On the Power Edge there were three wires for the map connector, with the one that came with the box it tapped the middle wire of the map with a purple wire from the Power Edge then on the C on the map plug it broke the line and was connected to a yellow wire on the PE, then from the power edge there was a blue wire that connected back onto the adaptor and then the factory harness plugged back into that.
I guess my question is do i tap the 5v refference and spilice into the return?
I did that anyways and the PE didn't work, neither did the MAP sensor truck had no power and didn't build any boost. So i unhooked the PE and hooked the MAP back up stock, and all was well i went home 140 mile trip as if nothing had happened except the check engine light. When i got home i tried it again, i didn't change a thing except when i was checking to see if my map was working all the sudden the PE came alive and smoke galore, but my MAP still wasn't working. Hooked it back up stock but left the PE pluged in, then after i put a load on the engine and tried to return to idle i got a funky kind of high idle, and a bad miss, but if i blipped the throttle it would all go back to normal unless i turned the PE off then on, then all back to funky idle miss land.
So I unhooked the PE re hooked up the MAP to stock, and still no power as if no MAP at all and check engine light on. I tried the check codes on the odo trick all i got was the p1693 and nothing else. tried unhooking battery for about 4 hours and that didn't clear the code, or help with the power.
I will play with an OBDII tomorrow during school to see if i can at least get it back to working stock power again, but any input is appreciated. One more question, does any one know where i can get the appropriate adapter for the MAP sensor for my 2000?
truck is a 2000 auto(i know, working on it), totally stock except egt, boost, and trans temp gauges, 4" exhaust.
