We are beginning to spec out a replacement truck for our first responder rig. This is what it looks like.

What vehicle would you recommend for a replacement? It has to be 4x4 and seat at least 5. We have been looking at a 1500 Suburban. But I don't like that idea. Please, give me some suggestions. Or tell me what you guys use and how well it's worked for you. Thanks.

Can you get the F450/550 with a crew cab & 4wd? Seems like the natural choice for replacing a pickup. What about a 4wd FL60/70/80 as a crew cab?

Based on your old Phord, I think you would overload a 2500 Suburban with what you might be carrying let alone a 1500. I agree that a 450/550 might be the way to go but it's based on what you are carrying. You would be surprised what your equipment would weigh. Combine that with 5 passengers and you will overload the GVW's of the vehicle.

Looking at the Suburban specs. (Available at that other site #ad
) The GVW's for a 1500 is only 7200 lbs with a payload of 2077 lbs. Now add your 5 firefighters and you reduce that by 1000lbs. Which leaves you with only 1077 lbs for gear.
With a 2500 suburban, that has a GVW of 8600 and a payload of 2839lbs, with your passengers you end up with 1839 lbs leftover.
Just remember the payload capacity does not include the passenger weight.

So what do you carry? Just EMS equipment or do you carry the Jaws as well. What about entry tools and extra gear?

You would be surprised how fast it adds up.
Keep safe.
