No pun intended, right? #ad

If you can, use real students as victims for the prom demo. Make them up to look gruesome. Make sure at least one is DOA. It might make an impression on someone. Sometimes it makes them think a little bit when they consider the possibility of someone they actually know being dead.

Well I am not a fire fighter and know absloutly nothing about SCUBA gear, but I am fairly good at finding info on the net. You want unimoog info... here you go. www.freightliner.com/corp/press_release. asp?id=261
It would appear that freightliner is selling them in the US.
Here is some more info: www.americanlafrance.com/Products/Wildland/

Americanlafrance is a freighliner company. I would guess that these are going to be expensive. . but they sure look good.

I agree with Fireman Dave. Make the scene as
grusome as you can. Do anything, and I mean
ANYTHING you can to make a lasting impression
on the students. Like Dave said, at least one (or more) DOA's that are clearly recognizable to the students. If you just put a blanket over them, the visual imprint is lost. Good luck, have fun.

Well, the demo went off without a hitch. Our moulage wasn't very good. The chopper came in just fine, and I think that made an impression. I don't know how much of an impression that made, but the scene went well. Next year I'd like to put a power point show together with some really gruesome pictures in it. Also supported by some statistics. I am assembling the show now, but I wasn't able to get it ready in time for today. If anyone has some anonymous pictures, I would be interested in them. But they must be anonymous. I can make up the stories to go with them.

As a side note, we had just got back to the station when the pager went for a man who got his hand caught in a rip-saw. We ordered up the chopper for that one. Great start to a morning.

Mactruck, any news yet on the cost of the system? I am still waiting for a call from our suppliers. Used may be the way to go for us. As it was stated, lots of departments are going to the 4500# bottles. So there will be a run on compressors. We'll see.

Here's our solution to all of our fire Dept's off-road needs:

It's a 1971 International, I wish it was Cummins powered !

And our 1992 Pierce Dash Rescue has an on-board cascade system, 4 5000 lb bottles.

Amianthus,
The price was $30,000 delivered & installed with a 2 year maintanance agreement. I'm tring to get the breakdown to find out how much the unit was by itself.
It was one of those town purchases through budget hearings and all so the info has been a little more difficult to get. I should know by next week.

Sorry about my Pic's something's wrong with the picture server i'm using #ad

ADDED ON EDIT: Looks like the cost is about $15,000 The extra cost covered shipping (on a flatbed truck to the dealer) Then shipping to our firehouse. Then setup & installation in the firehouse. Still trying to get a better breakdown.

We use an air truck on the firegrounds that can fill two bottles at a time. It has a diesel combressor that will fill the cascade system to 6,000 psi. The cascade bottles will only let us fill them to 5,000 though. In the stations, we have a 5 bottle set up. Each of them are maxed at 5,000 psi also. It seems to work pretty well, as long you don't have too many fires. When we get busy though, we have to call for the air truck to come over and fill up the stations cascade. We bought the interspiro bottles and pack about two years ago I think. I like them ok. Wanted to buy the Scotts new high pressure bottles, but management knew better I guess. As far as the vehicle goes, go out and buy a cummins equiped T-Rex with a tank on pump on the rear!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

6 sp manual, every option except automatic and sports package!! SPA guages installed! Next, Marco and either 275's or someones stage II's!!!! SnugTop Shell, Grizzly nurf bars, spray-in-bedliner and Professional FireFighter License Plates. (To match my Flame Red Truck of course!!)

We have a 4 bottle cascade on our rescue, plus a compressor (ancient, don't know brand, but it sure works) at the station. As far as brush rigs, Station 9 (morgantown) runs a 85 chevy 6. 2 diesel 1 1/4 military pickup with a skid unit and a '71 GMC 350 4 speed pickup with a skid unit

I forgot about this.

Well, here's an update to this.

We (I) test drove an Argo unit that was used. And we picked that up for $2,000. It seems to work pretty well. Although, we haven't tested its water fording capabilites. It works pretty well for other stuff. Well, we haven't had many grass fires this year either so it hasn't left the barn much. I'm thinking that this year we are going to use it on a snowmobile rescue. The only downside to this unit, is the ride. After about an hour of driving this thing off-road, your kidneys will beg for mercy.

As for the compressor system, that turned out to be a bust. We haven't had the structure fires this year, so we really haven't had much need for it. Although, we are starting to talk about it again because we are mandating that these bottles be filled to 2200 like they should.

Also since I started this topic, our department has been undergoing a number of changes. The current chief is stepping down, several officers have stepped down or have been shifted around, and a few promotions have happened (I'm a Lieutenant now). So maybe this year or here soon (when things settle down), we will be getting into this again. One can only hope.

I'll keep this topic in my files so that I can refer back to them when this comes up again. If anyone has anything to add, please do so. BTW, thanks for all the advice so far.

Thanks.

Thanks for the congrats. Although, that just means that I can get my nards into a bigger set of rollers if things don't go well.

Say aren't you some kind of offither? Chief or something?:D

LOL:D Nah - I'm just a lowly Lieut. like yourself. But hey - I don't want to be a chief. Chiefs stay outside. I want to be inside - where all the fun is!!Oo.

I'm also an inspector now. Ahhhhh the POWER!!!:D :D

I am not involved in any of this right now. Although, I was in a fire crew many years ago. I just thought this rig was way cool albeit expensive. I forgot to mention the cage is set up so a chopper can hook it up and set it down close to where it would be needed.

Re: internal changes. Our township ended up with two fire companies and while we have more roads than any other township in PA, we have few people. It was so bad, things came to fisticuffs more than once. Not a good situation.
