Which fender bolt do you have your mount bolted to? the one closest to the cab, or the one that is mid-fender? or somewhere in between?

Jeff,

I actually used a brand new bolt that I placed in the empty slotted hole that is in between the 2 fender mounts. It lines up perfectly with the stock radio antenna. I also used stainless to prevent any rust;)

There is a foam rubber piece on the hood that lines up with the hole I'm referring to. I cut some of the foam out and it gives it more lateral support so it's not whipping around all the time.

where to buy the Firestik"

WATT,

I ordered mine directly from "Firestik"

Here is the address and phone#

"Firestik" Antenna Company

2614 E. Adams Street

Phoenix, AZ 85034

(602) 273-7151

It's the Mini-Kit #MK-184R, $20. 99 (RAM Hood)

I bought the 3' Firestik II, $20. 99

It mounts in the closest bolt to the drivers door and fits nicely between the hood and fender.

The Mini-Kit comes with the cable and all the hardware. I like the installation and it looks good. But boy has Firestik done some research on antennas! Read all the directions and be sure to tune your antenna to your radio. Good Luck!

Alf Enterprises was my source for a mount and antenna. I think they are somewhere in the P NW. Quick service and reasonable prices. Even Firestick suggested them to me.

I mounted my dual Firesticks on the 2nd bolt out. The CB shop that tuned mine recommend that, to get away from RF reflection from the cab. I didn't know any better, so followed his advice. I have one Firestick for VHF 153 MHz and one for CB. Even with the RH side out on the 2nd bolt, I still get banging into the factory antenna in high winds. Also, if you are carrying a slide in camper, the close bolt will bang on the camper overhang, and the 2nd bolt out will too probably, it just gives you a little more room.

Thanks guys,

I ened up going with the empty hole with a stainless bolt. I have a 4' and 2' Wilson Antenna, with Hustler quick disconnects. I hav ethe 2" for the around town use so I won't have to remove it every day to pull into the parking garage. I jsut picked up a Galaxy DX 959 radio. Now I just have to find time to mount it and stuff.
