Guns, Bows, Shooting Sports, and Hunting 1955r SKS.

We were heading to the barn today to get chores done (still dark) the snow was all crunchy at -6* :-laf (shorts and tank top kind of morning) The gang got all kinds on jumpy (more than usual) when they hear me coming. Penny had the buckets I had the Marlin and the lantern ( I may look stupid but im not :-laf ) I thought I saw some movement near the barn, Told Penny to drop the buckets hold the lantern and stick to my behind like underwear. I love the gal but sometimes I just wonder if she has all her **** in ONE bag, Whats wrong BIG? ITS THE FRIGGIN MAIL MAN BE QUIET!!!!! But we dont get mail delivery here   NO **** !!!!! turn to see if she was fun-in me  she wasn't!!!! Seen a Cat run from the side of the barn shot twice and bingo cut down two pretty good size trees with the Marlin so now I have some firewood to cut up.

Yup!!! could of been his twin Pard. I really dont want to kill it just want it to stay away John my buddy from the Forest Dept. said that there have been dogs and cats missing around town when I talked to him a while back so I have been locking the barn up tight at night. I like the Picture on the PM it sounded about that loud Pard My ears and Penny's are still ringing. FIL/BIL came over at day break to give me a hard time asked if the trees ran around out here and got in the line of fire. Must be gettin old to miss a running target in the dark huh?

When yer launchin' a Warhead in them 540 Gr. Hammerheads, what do ya expect:-laf!

Glad ya got some Mountains to stop them Locomotives. Once they git started, its hard to slow 'em downOo. :D:-laf

I dont believe the Kitty would have appreciated listening to the wind whistling through its ventilated carcass:-laf;)

Actually they were some of MY HOME BREW 45/70's the melting Pot and lead molds that you pointed me in the direction of. So the best that I can come up with are about 525 gr. Bombs I need to work on the mix or something to get BIGGER AND BETTER SLUGS? still going to hurt if it connects im sure. I save the HAMMERS (what Jason and I call them) for the BOB when we might REALLY!! NEED THEM, they are a bit pricey!!!

BIG,

You could actually drop the weight and increase the velocity, with MORE POWDEROo. !

What load are you using?

GregH

******Don't take my info as the HOLY GRAIL ****but 44. gr of Varget. I have been using Starline brass I could go more but getting my A** handed to me every shot is getting a little old!!! and I dont think that the kitty or anyother thing that runs the winter is going to notice the difference in the FPS

That sounds like a PLAN, BIG!
I was thinking about something like this?
Even with the same powder charge it will penetrate like a freight train on thin skinned animals and drop the recoil a little!

The problem is getting the correct sized gas checks. All of the Lyman and Hornady . 45 caliber gas checks I have bought, over the years are barely . 457"-. 458". .
They need to be a couple of thousands larger for modern barrels. Now a HDPE wad may work well in conjunction with that undersized gas check?

Thats the one you pointed me in the direction of I like the mold. I found that more than anything like you said the gas check and the AMOUNT OF CRIMP makes the Varget work if not enough crimp it seems to smoke up the tube. Jason runs the same slug and uses IMR? he likes it but he's much younger and can take the beating.

looking like this is just a little to much fun for me. :-laf

Not really on the Reloader 7, have used Reloader 22!!! for the 300 win mag of the wifes it really likes that stuff and is CLEAN ,CLEAN ,CLEAN. If the 7 will be that clean on the 45/70 I will give it a try.

OK, so where is the picture of the firewood?

BIG, Hope you are doing well. But if you're touching off a shoulder howitzer, guess we really don't need to ask.

BIG,

Pain is GOOD, Pain is CLEAN, Pain Promotes DISCIPLINE!:D:cool:

Reloader 7 is very clean burning. However, it may not be the best powder for the heaviest bullets. It should be perfect for the 400 Gr. Lead?

I believe H-4895 and IMR-3031 were the worst for leaving unburnt powder and residue in the bore of a . 45/70.

Havent tried Varget.

Doing Well Gary haven't mastered going up and down hills YET with the new leg but still working on it. No picture to post I guess I could show some STUMPS. I have had a problem with my pictures some butt head on Photo Bucket took some and used them in an advertisement to make money. So Im trying to get a (I call it a brand ) but others call it a water mark to make sure that others dont do that again, the water mark is registerd to me. I have seen some of my Pictures on line and never gave it much thought but if someones going to make dollars I want my share.

Other than that just trying to stay warm its been plenty 0 cold here the last few weeks. And now this Kitty thing going on. Its tough on everything that lives here this winter has been a ruff one so far.

As you said Hope that all are doing well at your ranch, take care and dont be such a stranger ;)

Greg

I think the ONLY thing that I have used IMR 3031 in that it worked was my Winchester lever 32 win Special,

I like the Reloader powders they seem to work well in all that I have reloaded them for, I just rememberd the number of the wifes 300 win mag when we got it back from the smith I had one hell of a time and then tried the Reloader 22 and been there ever sense with a 180 gr bullet she can shoot the beads of sweat off a nat's forhead.

BIG,
NOW THATS SHOOTIN"!
I use Reloader 19 in the . 30/06 and . 30/338! Reloader 15 and H-4895 in the . 308.
