Tim Lynch's Mustang with a Steve Petty built and tuned Small Block Ford is now the first 33/10. 5W tired car to go into the 6's, crazy world in racing as I remember just a few years back when Doug Mangrum was the first in the 6's with a big tire.

What a rocket sled this run is... ... enjoy!

Niiiice love those twins :D there was a magazine company this year that did an articel on the03 4. 6 Cobra engine to see how much power they could get out of it. I think it was Hot roding mag in the end they ended up changing the cams and put a twin turbo setup on it and it dynoed around 990 hp  they could have turned up the boost some more Oo. thats pretty good for a factory crate engine with some mods.

Uh Jim...

Now I am not one to correct someone,BUT,The FIRST big tire car(or pro street as we all properly know it) into the sixes was Pat Musi in his 1969 Camaro called "Popeye". Mangrum may claim to be the first with a Mustang but Musi did along time ago with Popeye,1999 I think. Musi was alos one of the first to run over 200mph in a big tire car.

If you have ever gone that fast on a set of slicks you would understand my reserve on the next comment. I am not sure, other than testerone overload, why anyone would want to run into the sixes with a 10. 5 tire. Even with todays modern suspensions and safety its nuts. To try and stop a 10. 5 tire car a few years ago when they were only running deep into the eights was a feat... ... ..... Andy

AS I now go back in the archives of my mind you are right, Doug did that in NMRA form and not in the tube frame class of the Pro Streeter's.

Man that brings back losts of memory's, back in the day of Mike Moran in the Vega Wagon, Stan Shaws car that Tony Christian bought, were did those runs go to... ... ... there in my Video case :D

I've watched those 10. 5 freak shows runs for several years then got out of the lime light, use to hang around Chris Derrick (OKC home town) and Mike Duffy (Mike is too busy still) and had allot of fun at WFC 3 and 4.

Where is Muse now?

Wow - that thing must get SWEET short times... all the more impressive since he's running a 10. 5 tire.

My favorite part during that video is the underhood static shot - if you look closely at the radiator support - just above the side-by-each chargers... it says: "Displacement Replacement". I love that.

According to his website he has and is still running some NSCA(National Street Car Association) races and venturing into some Pro-Mod frays with his new style Camaro and a newly built Popeye 2 69 car. Looks like he has plenty of powerhouses running out there in many fast cars from his shop in Carteret,NJ. The one thing I got a chuckle out of when I was looking at his website was the little letter down towards the bottom that said... "website updated by Joe Lepone Jr. ". Man now there is a name we racers haven't heard in many a blue moon. My videos like yours Jim all are nestled on my bookcase for those winter days when you get the doldrums and need to drop one in,twist up the surround sound, and remember where they(the pro-street guys)started. Its not like it used to be then where the back-halved shoeboxes gulping down huge amounts of giggle gas once ruled its now the playground for the ex-prostock/pro-mod cars they call street cars. The only class thats vene remotely close to what it used to be is the Chicago area Outlaw Superstock association where mountian motors and big nitorus plates still rule... ... ... ... Andy

BTW... Musi can be found at www.patmusi.com

Jim, I remember watching Mike Moran street racing with his Pinto Wagon, he was up against a crotch rocket that supposedly did low 9's ,when Mike took off he did a wheelie so high that it scraped his rear bumper. The next time I seen him he had installed wheelie bars :D

I miss seeing Mike on the Curcuit, the last time I got to see him the track in Wichita KS paid him and Tony C. to match race, after the race Mike went with the 8 of us to eat and shoot the bull, good conversation.
