Well, I pulled the RV to N/Cal, Sacramento, Sparks,Nv, Vegas and back home in a 9 days time with the 2013 RAM. Up to this point, I have only towed the 5th wheel 2-400 miles max on trips.
Overall, thru all the mountains, Tehachapi's, Donner summit etc, she preformed very well. For the most part, while towing in Ca, I kept it in 5th gear as 60-63 MPH was tops.
Coming back thru Nevada 6th gear 65-67MPH until we started hitting wind etc.
Only on a couple occasions did the shifting concern me. About 3 times it shifted into 5th from 4th gear but seemed like it was staying in "unlock" (TCL) until I took my foot of the throttle. The other strange thing was when it would shift into TCL in 5th gear, it sounded like 2 stages as it went into lock. Maybe I never paid attention before but maybe you long haul 68 RFE folks can let me know if thats normal.
The wife, as well as me on a few long up hills, donner summit near the top, was in awe with how she was picking speed up going up hill at 7K elevation with the A/C on no less! I am at near max gross weight when towing the 5th, 25K combined.
In the 2005 3500 dually 6spd 4:10's we usually had to turn the A/C off to cool the engine as we pulled hills etc.
Fuel mileage was around 8-8.5 MPG, which is what I got with the 2005 5.9 dually and the previous 2012 3500 max tow dually. On some area's where it was flat and ni wind, it was near 9.5 MPG-10 MPG.
Beyond that, all went well and smooth !!!
